Crew Godley and Crew Robson – Music 🎶

We have been looking at a song called ‘Grandma Rap’ in our music lessons. We began our learning by finding the beat to the song using body percussion. Then, to help us learn the lyrics, we created actions for different parts of the song. We listened to the performance track of the song and practised using our actions at the right moment.

In the following lesson, we started by recapping the actions we had created before looking in more detail at the lyrics. We were incredibly quick to pick them up and we think that is because we created actions to help us to remember them! We focused hard on keeping in time with the backing track, and with each other – talking about how a crotchet is a ‘walking’ duration.

As a snapshot, to showcase our skills, we practised a song called ‘Hi lo chicka lo’. It teaches us all about how our voices move up and down. We added some hand actions in to match the pitch of our voice and performed these with a partner. We found this quite tricky but we persevered and tried our best regardless! Well done everyone! ✨

Crew Marsh – Music 🎶

We have been looking at a chant called ‘Football’ in our music lessons. We started by looking at the rhythm of the chant, practising clapping to the beat together and staying in time. We then looked at the lyrics, thinking about how we could perform them rhythmically and with clear diction.

In our next lesson, we then applied clapping to the beat whilst performing. It helped us to think about keeping in time with one another as this piece does not have a backing track. Once we had mastered this, we then added our own percussion accompaniment to keep the beat.

As a snapshot, to showcase our skills, we practised a song called ‘Rain is falling down’. It teaches us all about how our voices move up and down. We added some actions to match the pitch of our voice and even split into two groups to create a call-and-response version of the song!

National Storytelling Week! 📖📚

Dear Parents/Carers, 

As you may be aware, this week the children and adults within school have been celebrating National Storytelling Week here at Carcroft Primary School.

Throughout the week the children have been participating in a range of engaging activities including sharing their favourite stories, listening to stories, taking part in drama activities and much more!

Tomorrow (Friday 2nd February) will be the last day of this fabulous week and as a celebration we are asking both children and adults to come to school in their pyjamas, lounge wear or general comfy clothes! Children will be exploring ‘bedtime stories’ as well as books for our older children that are perfect for reading as they drift off to sleep! 💤 Children are welcome to come to school in their dressing gowns but please can you also ensure that they have a coat as the weather is still a little chilly ❄. Children are also welcome to bring their slippers to school but will need sensible footwear to wear outside at break and lunch times. For this school event we will not be asking for any monetary donations.

We look forward to welcoming the children into school tomorrow in their pjs and celebrating the end of a successful Storytelling Week! 📚📖

English Lead

Wonderful writing!

Crew MW have been working hard on their writing skills today. After a visit from Goldilocks, they wanted to tell Miss Welburn how to make porridge like they did with Miss McGlone on Tuesday. They worked hard to build sentences together in a group and then to pinch their sounds using their Fred fingers and spell the words to make captions. We’re really impressed with the captions that they came up with!

The UK and Svalbard

Building on our knowledge from the previous lesson, we’ve compared the UK and Svalbard which is a country we will be learning more about as we end out geography Case study and start the science work. We discussed how there are differences due to them being in different geographical zones. Even better that we were asking questions about Svalbard such as the distance from the UK to Svalbard, are you able to travel to Svalbard?

Human and physical features

On Tuesday, we spent the lesson discussing the human and physical features of Italy and Africa. The aim was to compare 2 places from different geographical zones and start to understand why there are differences between them based on where they are located in the world. We enjoyed finding out different information and we were totally surprised that Africa has approximately an eighth of the worlds population.

Scotty’s 🏃‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

Yesterday, Crew Hamill had their memory skills put to the test when they took part in a group game at Scotty’s. In mini crews, we had to remember a message and pass it on to our crew mates without forgetting any of the words. The last person in our crew had to relay the message back to the Scotty’s leader and we got a point for every word we remembered! This was tricky enough, but we also had to take part in an obstacle course that was designed to distract us and make us forget.

PE – Crew MW ❄️

We have been looking at our throwing skills in PE. We were introduced to over arm and under arm throws. So that we could practice both of these throws, we threw imaginary snowballs! We split into 2 groups and, with the help of some very kind children from Crew Marsh, completed two different activity stations. One station required us to use the over arm throw to hit the wall from a certain distance, the other station needed us to use the under arm throw to get the beanbag into the hoop target.
