Book Talk – Guardians of the planet

In our first book talk lesson this week, we started our new book “Guardians of the planet – how to be an eco-hero”. We started the lesson with jigsaw of the front cover. We really enjoyed completing this and seeing what we noticed about the book. We already had some amazing questions such as “why are there wind turbines on the front cover?” and “what impacts are we having on food and animals?”

E Safety day! 🌎💻

This morning in crew, we looked at how we can keep ourselves safe whilst using the internet. First, we had a discussion on how we keep ourselves safe in school, the playground and the wider community. We came up with some fantastic ideas such as “follow the rules and listen to instructions” “don’t talk to strangers and people we don’t know” and “don’t use the tyres and climbing frames when it has rained as they will be wet and slippy and we could get hurt”. We then discussed the different ways we can access the internet and why we need to use it. It provides us with entertainment, allows us to communicate with others and can help us to learn new things. Finally, we designed an influencer who had a positive impact on the wider community. Some ideas we came up with were: gymnasts, gamers, fashion designers and athletics.

Book talk in MI

Our entry tickets allowed us to make predictions on our new text. We used the pictures and title to help us with this. We made notices and wonders then made links to previous stories we had read. We then unpicked the title and again thought about what may happen. From here we explored our new vocabulary and tried to think of examples when we had used each word. From here we started to explore the text. We text marked our new vocabulary as we read. We were asked lots of questions about the text as we read, assessing our understanding. We then thought more about the setting and we drew our ideas! We really loved doing this. We used the text to support us and tried to label what we had drawn. We then shared this with a peer 🙂

Before, next and after 🕰️

Crew Godley have begun their new maths unit this week, Time. To begin with with delved into the language – before, first, next, after, then and finally! We ordered sequences of events and used sentences to articulate ours and other actions. We were very confident and carried out lots of activities to consolidate our knowledge.

Storytelling Week 2024 📚✨

To celebrate Storytelling Week 2024, Crew MW enjoyed many stories, discussions about stories and even a pyjama day! During crew, we discussed what our favourite stories were and then tried to guess the story based on a description from Miss McGlone. We were able to recognise all the stories apart from one – The Magic Porridge Pot, so we decided that at snack time we would listen to that story to familiarise ourselves with it! We noticed that porridge was a familiar theme as we have been looking at Goldilocks and the Three Bears in expedition too! We’ve been working hard on the stories we hear in expedition by using props to act the story out, as well as being able to work on our retelling skills.

On pyjama day, Keenan brought in a copy of his favourite story – Finding Nemo, so we enjoyed listening to it whilst snuggled in our pyjamas. We really love stories and we listen to a different story every day, sometimes more than one!

MI start their independent write

Today we started our independent plot point of our diary entry. We re watched part of the clip so we could really think about the characters feelings and empathise with him. We chotted different pieces of language to describe Mowgli’s feelings then built a bank of similes around these. We also thought of some of the openers and adverbials that may be appropriate for this plot point. Children then started to write their plot point, applying all the features they had used previously. As I always say to them, it is their time to shine! And this is what they did. A great start to their independent write. I can’t wait to read the next part.
