Chinese New Year🧧

In Fridays Crew we learnt about the celebration Chinese New Year, we watched a video and discussed the tradition. Chinese New Year 2024 is the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac. Each year in the Chinese zodiac is associated with an animal sign, and the Dragon is considered a symbol of strength, courage, and good fortune. It is a time to embrace Chinese traditions, enjoy delicious food, and wish for prosperity and happiness in the year ahead. It was lovely to hear that one of our crew members will be celebrating with their family. As our crew activity we had to find the stolen dragons head costume; solving lots of maths problems along the way.

Expedition in Crew Pashley 🕷️🐍🦔

This week, in Expedition, we have been looking at the habitats of animals and plants to continue with our Expedition work looking into the planet. We looked at what plants need and different diets of animals too! On Tuesday, Charlie and Ates held different types of animals including a snake! 🐍 and Tarantula 🕷️😮

Algorithms everywhere!

In our computing lesson today we explored what an algorithm is. We learnt that they are a set of instructions to help carry out a task. We then thought about if it matters how we order a set of instructions. We instructed each other to dress up and noticed in which ways we did so. They weren’t all the same!

We discovered that sometimes it does matter which order we get dressed in for example tie and shirt. We used paper dolls to practice writing and following our own algorithms to dress the doll.

We then debriefed by ensuring we could order a set of instructions in a very specific order…… crossing the road. A successful lesson on algorithms 💻

Why do Muslims pray? 🙏🕌

In RE why Muslims pray. We first discussed the difference between Christians and Muslims and found out that Muslims pray to God, Allah. We learnt the 6 main beliefs Muslims have: belief in Allah, belief in angels, belief in holy books (the Qur’an), belief in the prophets, belief in the day of judgement and the afterlife and belief in predestination. We then found out lots of information about the 5 pillars of Islam. We then completed the main beliefs Muslims and had a go at using calligraphy to write these out.

Computing inputs 💻⬆️

In our computing session this week, we found out about computer inputs. Electronic devices such as laptops, microwaves and remotes all have buttons which when used send an input into the internal computer. We found this really interesting and never thought there would be a computer inside our remote 😱 📺 We then had a go at designing our own robot and thinking about what inputs we would want it to have! 🤖💻
