We have looked at what it means to double a number and to put this into practise, we used our special doubling cauldron! Whatever we put into the cauldron… double the amount came out! We worked well together to predict what we thought would come out of the magic doubling cauldron before checking the answer using accurate counting.
Crew MW have been working on making numbers to 10 and comparing them in maths today. We started by looking at the domino sets and telling our partners how many spots were on each side and how many we had altogether. We then compared the dominoes using the vocabulary, ‘more’, ‘less’, or ‘equal’.
Once we had practiced using our new vocabulary, we made numbers on our tens frames and used our vocabulary to compare how many we had. We’re getting really good at recognising how many counters are in our tens frame without counting them by grouping and using our number bonds. Well done Crew MW!
Today we looked at symmetrical figures using a mirror line to reflect given shapes and patterns. We found this tricky at first, but after some practise in mini crews and as a whole crew, we were able to apply our knowledge to some questions. We really enjoyed our maths lesson today, some of us even achieved green standard! Fab work MI 🙂
Today, in maths we learnt about lines of symmetry and used a mirror to find them.
In our maths lesson today we also explored repeating pattern with 2d shapes. Everyone worked really hard but huge shoutout to Eveah, Charlotte and Teddy who smashed the challenge I set them too. Great work!
Today in maths we had some very quick fire questions! Finding numbers, writing numbers and completing our place value activities. Everyone did a great job especially Evie and Lily-Ann, showing great resilience.
A fabulous maths session to start the week. We had a quick recap of 3D shapes and then did a cutting and sticking activity to consolidate our learning!
This week, we’ve been learning how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions. We learned the method whole number times the denominator then add the numerator (if there is one). Some children found it easy to use the method whereas some others needed a bit of further support.
Today, we explored 3D shapes. We sorted them based on their properties and learnt some new vocabulary. We counted the faces, edges and vertices and then matched them to their name at the end of the lesson.
