Crew Godley have been working hard, to get smart this week so that they can make their millions in years to come! We started our new unit, all about money. Jax was a superstar and could name and order the coins by value. We matched coins to values and then played a game on the iPads to reinforce our learning, well done Crew Godley!

This afternoon in our expedition lesson, we researched Svalbard and the UK to find information such as population, weather/seasons, agriculture and education. We then sorted the pictures into our Venn diagram to show the similarities and difference of the human and physical features of the UK and Svalbard, Norway. We were then able to unpick why these similarities and differences might occur. We came up with some great reasons such as “the climate in Svalbard is colder because it is closer to the North Pole” and “there are physical features such as glaciers and icecaps which the UK doesn’t have”

Today, we were super lucky to get the opportunity to explore the household waste centre in Carcroft. We were super eager to see if we could put everything we had learnt into practice and remember how we recycle different items. We found it super interesting and loved watching the JCB digger in action! Today was a fantastic experience and we are definitely recycling experts now!

This afternoon, Crew Hamill learned all about National Storytelling Week and spent some time reading a few chapters from our class book. We’re really loving this book and cannot wait to find out what happens to the polar bear! 🐻❄️

Today, Crew Hamill were extremely lucky to be given VIP access all areas to Carcroft Recycling Centre! ♻️We took a walk from school to our local recycling centre, collecting some rubbish along the way that we could recycle when we got there.

We got to see all of the different recycling bins that are available at the recycling centre and the lovely people from Doncaster Council told us all about the differences between them and how each different type of waste is safely recycled to help protect our wonderful world! 🌍

As if that wasn’t enough! We then got to see the JCB in action AND we got to sit in it ourselves! 🤩They showed us how they use this to flatten each of the bins so that more waste can be added. This means there will be less trips to landfill!

Today in reading we completed two entry tickets that allowed us to reflect on the previous stories we had read and then make predictions on the next story by using the title. We tried to make links to our current expedition and thought about what we already know about Africa. We then explored our new vocabulary, the language we would come across when reading our new story. We worked well in mini crews to do this. We then used a partner read and echo read when reading the text outloud. We text marked our new vocabulary as we read. We then moved onto some book talk questions where we use APE well to answer our impression question. We used evidence from the text to build our answer then made sure we linked our ideas back to the question. We are trying really hard in our reading sessions and our confidence is growing 🙂 Our exit ticket allowed us to think about what we thought is going to happen when the character is hunting. We even tried to explain our answers.

Today we used our chotting from yesterday to complete a shared write and then we wrote the first chunk of PP2. We used some great similes to describe our feelings aswell as the thunder and lightning. A great writing lesson today in MI 🙂

Yesterday we began to explore non-fiction writing. We are going to create our own non-chronological report all about hedgehogs as we have been learning about them in our expedition lessons. We stared by exploring the features of a non-chronological report such as headings and subheadings. We then worked in pairs to find out some of our own hedgehog facts to use in our writing later in the week.
