Writing in MI

MI have now written their first 2 plot points of their 3rd person suspense narrative. Their setting descriptions included some great figurative language and their second plot point introduced an unknown threat that started to approach their main character. We can’t wait to write our next plot point!

Flower art 🌸

We have some beautiful blossom trees in our outdoor area in EYFS and we have noticed that some of the flowers had started to fall off and onto the playground. During our last expedition, we used small wooden hammers to create flower art so we decided to get them out and use the blossom to make beautiful pictures.

We added glue to our paper before choosing our flowers and using the hammers to flatten them onto our paper, making sure they were well stuck down. The final pieces looked really pretty!

Whilst we were doing this activity, we spotted a huge bee taking a break on the flowers we planted last half term. We looked carefully at how it was moving, making sure that we didn’t get too close and frighten him. We noticed that it was wiggling it’s body, trying to get lots of pollen stuck to it. We left some sugary water nearby in case it needed more energy to continue finding pollen. 🐝

Stay and engage – Crew McGlone 🚗🚚🚂

To get hooked into our new expedition, we invited our grown ups into school to help us create box models of different modes of transport. We had lots of different resources and materials to use and we used our creative skills to help us create AMAZING models that are now on display in our classroom. We will build on our skills by making lots of different box models linked to our expedition over the next few weeks. Miss McGlone was VERY impressed with what we created during our stay and engage session and she can’t wait to see what other creations we can make! Thank you to our grown ups for coming in and helping us, it was a lovely morning!

Poetry in MI

Today we continued to unpick 3 mark questions using APE to support our answers. We then moved onto a poetry text, thinking about the meaning of the poem. We had to use our inference skills today in order to find answers as well as thinking about some of the vocabulary. The poem really challenged our thinking but allowed us to have some really good discussions.

Maths continues in MI

In magic maths we found the mean then converted between fractions, decimals and percentages. In our main maths lesson, we continued to look at word problems. Such hard work again in MI 🙂

Memories of the Queen 👑

To kick start our King Charles learning we looked at memories of the Queen that have happened over her reign. We looked at the Queen’s coronation and the Queen’s platinum jubilee. We really enjoyed watching the different memories and learning/understanding what happened in them and why.

Reading in MI

In reading we explored a new text, we used a range of strategies when reading out loud including echo read, partner reading, read around the robin as well as trying to beat a timer to increase our pace. We then unpicked some of the vocabulary using a range of strategies to help us. Whilst reading we text marked, one of the things we circled were dates. Our non fiction text included lots of dates which were really useful to know when it came to answering questions later in the session. We then took part in a vocabulary activity which assessed our understanding of the vocabulary we had previously discussed. We looked at both synonyms and antonyms for some of the vocabulary we had highlighted in our texts as well as thinking of some of our own examples. We then moved onto answering questions which included a range of sats style questions. Some of us then moved onto green standard questions where we had to use APE to answer the 3 mark questions. A positive attitude by all in todays lesson, well done MI 🙂

Reading

Today we started Chapter 3 of our Expedition text and focused on vocabulary.

Children started off playing a game called Round Table where they had to list adjectives from the text. We then shared these as a whiparound.

During the lesson we come across a word that we were unsure of how to use in a sentence. We looked at the definition and discussed some possible ways of using the word. Children then had an opportunity to write their own sentence.

Relative clauses in MI

Our grammar lesson started with a mini assessment that challenged our pace and got us thinking about different types of grammar. We then moved onto looking at relative clauses along with relative pronouns. There are some great supportive role models in MI who continue to get smart every lesson. Our grammar knowledge continues to improve every day.
