Number lines

Yesterday in maths, we were looking at number lines. We learned how important it was to work out what the number line is going up in so that you are able to accurately complete it. Some of us found this a little tricky but we didn’t give up. It was lovely to see some of the crew supporting their peers when they became stuck.

Grammar work in MI

After taking part in our experience lesson yesterday, we started to think about adjectives and expanded noun phrases in our grammar session. We thought about the first two pages of the story we had read yesterday and chotted using some of the lenses. We created expanded noun phrases based on the pictures. We then took part in a shared write using the language we had just built. Finally we created our own sentences in our books 🙂

Caring crew in MI

We started to discuss our families in crew time this morning. First of all, we played a game of swap where we had to move places with others in the circle if we shared something the same. This included brothers, sisters and pets! We were then given different pictures that were cut up, we had to build the pictures thinking about what we could see and what was the same and different. From here we started to think about our own family, we drew them, described them and added words to describe their characters. We then shared our creations with our partners and then the whole crew. Our debrief involved us thinking about our role as a member of our crew. We discussed our ideas well and related lots of our discussions to our howls. A great start to the day in MI 🙂

What was it like during The Great Fire of London? 🔥

Today in our experience lesson we thought about chaotic the streets would have been during The Great Fire of London. We had to dodge the horses and carts and even jump over the poo 💩

We then had a go at up-levelling some basic sentences to include some year 2 features. I can’t wait to see your writing tomorrow Crew Robson 🥰

Experience lesson in MI

For our Writing Experience Lesson we went into the forest area where we shared our new text. This helped with visualising what the rainforest may be like instead of being in the classroom. We explored and unpicked the front cover and blurb, making predictions before we started reading. We looked at the pictures throughout the book and how they related to the story. We used our senses throughout our discussions, this will support us when writing in a few days. When back in the classroom we started some chotting around the 5 senses. Children then added to our classroom display using our chotting and from reading the text. This helped us to visualise what a rainforest may be like.

Marvellous Maths

Crew Hamill have worked REALLY hard to master our maths this week. Today, we were learning how to partition numbers to 100. We started with numbers in their expanded form, partitioning them into tens and ones and then we stretched ourselves to think of different ways of partitioning. Did you know 35 can be split into 30 + 5, 20 + 15 and 10 + 25? We used base 10 to support our learning, giving a visual representation of what our numbers look like partitioned.

KS1 Music 🎶🎼🎵

In Year 1 this week, we began our musical journey by looking at our first unit of work – The Menu Song. We warmed our bodies up by using big gestures and actions to act out baking a cake! We then listened to the song we are going to be learning during this unit. It is a cumulative song which refers back to past lines throughout resulting in verses that get longer each time. This particular song also helps us to remember the days of the week, as well as practise our sequencing skills. We began to learn the lyrics and we will continue to build up our confidence as the weeks go on.

In Year 2, we started work on our first unit – Tony Chestnut. We began by using call-and-response style 4-beat action games. This really got us thinking and we had to concentrate to make sure we were listening to and then repeating back the correct pattern. Tony Chestnut is an action song and we looked at the words to add actions to. We practised the actions in the correct order whilst trying to keep in time to the beat. We then challenged ourselves by trying to add the vocals in whilst doing the actions! It was a little tricky but with further practise over the coming weeks we will soon be ready to showcase what we have achieved!
