In our second book talk lesson this week, we focussed on reading the text and unpicking the vocabulary we didn’t understand. We picked out some great words such as “century”, “predicted”, “variety” and “enhanced”.

In arithmetic this afternoon, we were learning how to divide by 6. We have found this a little tricky as we struggled to see how many groups of 6 we could make especially if there were some left over. We got some cubes out so we could physically group it into 6. We’ll continue to work on this in our next arithmetic lesson.

We started our new writing unit today which will be a narrative based around the film Ice Age. The last narrative we completed was our best piece of writing so we’re excited to get started.
After watching the video, we worked together in mini crews to sequence the events. Then we spent some time chatting notices, feelings and actions.
There was lots of fun had today in our Scotty’s sesson. Children had an inflatable assault course which they tired themselves out on.

Yesterday it was Internet Safety Day which is a really important focus especially as most of us are online at some point.
In Crew, we discussed our favourite thing to do online and how to ensure we keep safe. We discussed scenarios of what to do if something happened such as someone being unkind via messages or a stranger adding them. We then identified who our trusted adults were so children knew who they could speak to if they felt unsafe or uncomfortable online.

Our highlight of last week was our computing lesson. We had to tinker with music elements in Scratch, some even challenged themselves and recorded their own music and made their own sprite to go along side it.

In today’s geography lesson we compared different places in the UK with places in Africa. We looked at Zanzibar, Madagascar and Johannesburg and thought about the similarities and differences with Beeley, London and Skegness. We then used what we had learnt to work in mini crews to create a script which we then recorded to make a video. We hope you enjoy it!
In our writing lesson today, we focussed on grammar which we will need in our narrative writing about The Ice Age. Our focus today was subordinate clauses but before we could look at these we looked at the difference between an independent clause and a dependent main clause. We learnt that an independent clause makes sense on its own and dependent clauses do not make sense by themselves and need a main clause to make sense. We then spotted how a subordinate clause can be at the start or end of a sentence. Then we had a go at piecing together some sentences whilst identifying the main clause and subordinate clause. We really enjoyed the extra challenge, where all the words were chopped up separately. We are so excited to try to include these in our writing. 😀✏️

In today’s geography lesson we compared different places in the Uk with places in Africa, we looked at Zanzibar, Madagascar and Johannesburg. We were very good at looking at the similarities and differences with Beeley, London and Skegness. We compared the human and physical features whilst noticing many different things.
We noticed Madagascar and Beeley were similar because they both had trees and grass but Madagascar did not have any buildings. We also noticed that the shape of the trees different and we couldn’t not see any roads in Madagascar.

Today, Crew Hamill visited our library to change our reading for pleasure books. We loved being able to explore the range of different books available for us to choose. We then spent a relaxing 5 minutes in the library reading the books we had chosen.
