Blind food tasting

In expedition, we have tried different foods whilst our eyes were shut. We were given each piece of food and used our senses to see if we could figure out what it was. First, we touched the food to see what it felt like, then we smelt the food to see if there were any strong smells to identify and then we tasted it. We guessed tuna because of the smell but we struggled with avocado!

Blind Taste Testing

Today, Crew Hamill continued their hook week investigations into our new expedition by kick starting our DT lessons for this half term with a blind taste test. We all had to close our eyes and were given a selection of different foods that were popular in Ancient Maya. We had no idea what these 5 items were until we had touched them, smelt them and tasted them. Some of us were super brave and made sure we tasted them all! However, lots of us instantly regretted tasting the last food item (chilli pepper!!) and had to run straight to the sink for a drink to cool our mouths down!

Hook Week(DT)

After getting our wrap ready into dough balls. We then rolled it out and fried it to make the tortilla wrap. We then left it to cool and started to get our ingredients to chop to put in our wrap. Once it was cool we then made our own wrap which we found very delicious

Collaging

Last week, we continued practicing our collaging skills by taking some elements of the final product to have a go at. We looked at the shape and appropriate shapes to use to create the object we wanted.

KS1 Art Exhibition

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our celebration of learning after school tonight. It was amazing to see the children sharing their beautiful work with their friends and families. They have worked so hard over the past term and loved our ‘Blue Planet’ expedition. We hope you all have a lovely Easter and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. KS1 Crew x

We are artists!

We have been super busy in Crew Thompson with our Easter art. We first started by looking at our artist “Jessa Dupuis”. We looked at a range of her work and discussed what we praised, noticed and wondered. We then did our first draft in our sketchbooks using our cutting skills and layering skills and creating a backwash.

We then practiced cutting out flowers and leaves as when we peer critiqued each others work, we noticed that this was something we needed more practice on.

Complete Collage

Crew Hamill are extremely proud of their final collage piece! We used blue powder paint to sponge paint a background and then developed our cutting skills further from our drafting session. We critiqued our draft pieces and realised that we needed to focus on the size of the pieces we were cutting and we needed to be more accurate with the shape of the flowers we were cutting. We’re very happy with our final spring designs.
