Exploring the outdoors in Early Years

As we move into Autumn and Winter, we are really loving exploring the outdoors in our EYFS crews! We’d love it even more if we were allowed to jump in the puddles, make mud pies and explore the water area…but to do this, we need the right clothes! Please can you send us with our wellies and waterproofs so that we can explore our outdoor environments while also keeping our uniforms clean – your washing machines will thank you for it!

Knowledge dump in MI

Today we thought about all the learning we had completed in case study one. We created a knowledge dump to help us to write our case study reflection. It was great to see how much we had remembered 🙂 Great work MI 🙂

Edit and redraft in MI

Yesterday, in our expeditionary learning, we took part in a critique session where we unpicked a crew members plot point. We offered praise, notices and wonders linking to our gold and green standards then used feedback to edit and redraft the piece. Today we worked on our our plot point where we tried to make it better. We thought about which of our gold standards needed more work and added this to our work when redrafting. We also really thought about green standard, trying to include this in our writing.

A carousel of maths in MI

Today we took part in a maths quiz in order to consolidate the arithmetic learning we have been doing. We rotated round a carousel of activities looking at both long and short division, long multiplication and adding and subtracting decimals. We worked hard by ensuring we had a positive attitude throughout, we got smart by supporting others to succeed by working collaboratively and we showed kindness by communicating with respect. A great maths lesson today MI 🙂

Crafty cutting in Crew Nursery

The children in nursery have worked hard to bet smart using their scissors today. We have learnt that we need to point our thumb to the ceiling to cut snips in the paper.

“Its tricky” said Harlow. ”Ive done it” said Archie. The children were so proud of themselves and loved cutting the colourful strips of paper.

Exploring custard in Crew Nursery.

The children in nursery having been looking at the word “soft”. We explored custard in our tough tray and spoke about how it feels.

“I think it smells like strawberries, its a bit sticky” said Elsie. ”It’s soft and warm” said Rose.

We have really enjoyed putting our fingers in!

I wonder what we will have in our tough tray next week.

Getting Smart at Home 🤩

Shout out to Esme, who has produced some beautiful arithmetic and writing work at the weekend. She has self assessed her times table knowledge, used working models for her long division and highlighted year 6 writing standards within her writing. I think we have a teacher in the making! Amazing effort!

Lots of children do extra revision and learning at home in Crew Mcloughlin and it makes me beam with pride 🤩 Lets keep up the hard work!

What a great start to the week!

In Crew Mcloughlin we have been getting smart in arithmetic, learning the coin method to efficiently work out long division. We spoke about how we would leave dividing by 2 digit numbers till the end of tests as they do take time and stamina. Great mathematical work!

In our independent writing today, we have used our amazing planning we generated to write our first plot point. We even visited the quad to do this as the sun was shining 🌞 We used our critique norms to critique each others work. This was really helpful in order to improve our writing and ensure we had hit our targets we had set ourselves. We cannot wait till we are showcasing our final product and our writing is read to our audience – the Carcroft community.
