Today in grammar, we have been learning about the āto haveā verb. We learned that the āto haveā verb shows when you own something or hold something.
Has is used when talking about 1 noun.
Have is used for more than one as well as with you and I.
Had is used to show the past tense.
Role playing
In reading, we continued exploring The Lion and The Unicorn. In this lesson, we took on the role of Lenny and acted out when he ran away. They scampered through the raspberry brushes, weaved through the trees, went through a hole in the hedge and ran through the night.
Estimating on a number line
In maths, we continued our work on number lines. On this occasion, we had some missing number and had to estimate what the number was but also ensuring they were in order.
Past or Present? To be verb
This week in grammar we have continued to learn about the to be verb and understanding past and present. We had the Carcroft Time Machine which helped us sort our sentences.
Wartime Food – Cauliflower Pie
Last week, we made Cauliflower pie using basic ingredients. This was an opportunity for us to get a feel for what it was like during the war and the challenges there would have been due to rationing. Everyone pushed the self out if their comfort zone and tried it. There were mixed reviews. Some enjoyed the crunchy top while others preferred the soft inside. Some were pleasantly surprised to discover that they actually really enjoyed it and had seconds.
Number Lines
Last week, we became a human number line to help us understand the different intervals. We started quite simple so children could understand that each person went up a set amount. Once we were feeling more confident with it, we missed some numbers out and children had to work together to figure out the missing intervals.
Common and Proper nouns
Last week, we had a reteach lesson on common nouns and Proper nouns as we still werenāt 100% confident. To start we sorted some words into groups to remind us that a noun is the name of a person, place or thing. We then completed an activity weāre we had to match the common noun with the proper noun. E.g. shop – Asda
Irregular verbs and verb phrases.
In our grammar session today, we deepened our understanding of verbs and learnt about irregular verbs. The root verb in irregular verbs change when writing it in the past tense. For example, the root verb ādrinkā has to be ādrunkā when writing it in the past tense. We did lots of sorting activities where we sorted irregular and regular verbs. We also played bingo which we loved and canāt wait to play it next week!āŗļø
Biscuits fit for a banquet
Today we became bakers for our next castle job. We were given the task of designing and making biscuits for the King and Queens Friday Night Banquet.
We took time to design our biscuits and then made them. They looked so delicious that we decided to eat them, hopefully the queen wont be too upset!
