We have had a great week in nursery using our printing skills to make some poppy prints on card. We put all of our work together a created a wreath for our schools Remembrance community meeting in the hall. We were very proud to be part of the day!

Today in RE, we learnt more about Jesus’ values and what impact they potentially have in the 21st Century. We discussed quotes and mission statements from Jesus and interpreted what we thought they meant. Some of the vocabulary was tricky but we worked as a crew to understand this. To finish we discussed our school mission and linked this to our HoWLs ‘Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind’ and discussed how we could make this world a better place.

This week in KS1 we have been we’ve been learning all about the Hindu festival of light – Diwali! We’ve explored how Diwali is celebrated through looking at photographs and videos, this morning in Crew we made our own Diwali baubles to celebrate 🎉

Scan the QR code to be a part of our whole school dojo, the aim is to improve communication with parents so this will be our one stop shop of sharing what is going on in school. We will not be using the messaging service.
Please join the whole school class!

This afternoon Crew Hamill and Crew Thompson worked together to complete an investigation. First, we made a prediction about how light travels. We then used torches and string to see how light travels. We found out that light travels in a straight line and doesn’t bend round objects. We are going to continue our investigations over the next few weeks and can’t wait to find out more about light.

This afternoon in our PE lesson, we developed our dodging skills to avoid being hit. The two things we needed to be successful today were keeping our head up to see the throwers and standing in the ready position with your knees bent ready to move. First, we practiced in partners dodging, ducking and jumping out of the way of the ball. Then, we had a bigger game of dodgeball. We were able to put our dodging skills into practice. It was fantastic to see the children playing by the rules and being honest if they got hit.

This week in Crew MW, we’ve been learning all about the Hindu festival of light – Diwali! We’ve explored how Diwali is celebrated through looking at photographs and videos, and we have seen that they set off fireworks as part of their celebrations, just like we do on Bonfire Night!

After we had looked at our photos and the videos, we had an exciting visitor! Miss Shelley came in to do a Diwali dance workshop with us all! We had so much fun and learnt lots of new dance moves!

After our Diwali dancing, we looked at Diva Lamps and thought about how we could make these out of clay. We rolled the clay into a ball, squashed it down and then used the end of a rolling pin to make indentations for the candle. Once we had shaped the lamps, we used the clay tools to create patterns on them. We can’t wait for them to dry out so that we can paint them!

In provision, we have also been using the beads, pasta and coloured sand to make Rangoli patterns! We’ve loved learning all about Diwali!

Y1 were lucky enough to have a visit from the school nurses to share with us about brushing our teeth twice a day, once in a morning and b🦷efore bed.
We learnt about plaque and what was good or bad for our teeth.
An app that has been advised is brush dj!

Thanks again to all parents for coming to reading cafe, it was great to see everyone reading their stories. I have logged it on the reading track as a read.
