Crew Elmer Daily Blog 22.04.21

Thrilling Thursday!🌟

Star moment of the day: ⭐

Today’s ‘star moment’ has to be our ‘Write Stuff’ lesson this morning. After not doing much writing this week in Crew Elmer with a heavy focus being on Experience Days and grammar I was nervous about the children writing today…. However, I didn’t need to worry as the writing that they produced was amazing! They included expanded noun phrases, a range of pronouns and some very imaginative similes! It just showed me how much they had absorbed from the experience days! Amazing work Crew Elmer! Well done! 👍👏📝✏🙌😁

Todays HoWL average is: 2.7

Another slightly lower score than I would have hoped but today we had three absences and also some children unfortunately let themselves down. I am hoping for a better day tomorrow! 🤞

This week’s HoWL target is: 3.0

How can we develop this tomorrow?

All crew members need to work together to ensure that all crew members are working hard, getting smart and being kind ALL day.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Today’s HoWL Hero was Hannah May! Hannah May blew me away with her knowledge during our Road Safety session this afternoon. She could list several different crossings including how to use them safely, recite the Green Cross Code and list the dangers and distractions related to road crossing! She was also voted our Road Safety Expert! If you need to know how to cross the road safely then Hannah May is your lady! Amazing Hannah May! Well done! 🙌🤩👏👍👣🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️🚗

Thrilling Thursday!

We started our day reflecting on our week and all the exciting things that had happened. We spoke about all the animals we saw and used our Fred talk to help us name them!

In the afternoon we thought about our favourite animals. We cast our votes and then used our maths skills to see which one was the class favourite. We started looking at the marks to see which had the ‘most’ and then we used our counting skills to see if we were right.

We have also been busy building an obstical course! It started off as 3 boxes and by the afternoon it was almost as long as the playground! This was a great test of our movement skills! We skipped, jumped and stepped over different heights and had to carefully balance on the wobblier boxes!

Our HOWL hero is Lacey-Mae! Today she counted all the way to 10 using blocks and with the help of a special helper! As one of our littlest learners we were blown away with how smart she is getting!

Highlight of the day:

We began to copy up our Wizard of Oz narrative writing from the week, taking care to ensure our handwriting was beautiful. Lots of the Crew did a fantastic job and cannot wait to show off their work to their grown ups!

Howl Heroes:

Work Hard: This goes to Dalton today for his brilliant effort to make his handwriting neat and tidy, well done!

Get Smart: This goes to Perrie for listening to instructions first time and completing her work to the best of her ability, keep it up Perrie!

Be Kind: This goes to Toby for helping the teachers tidy up the playground without being asked, well done!

Howl Score: 2.5

A slight improvement from yesterdays score but unfortunately we are still seeing a lot of the same silly behaviours in the classroom. We have reset our Howl expectations ready for tomorrow and we will hopefully be able to get through our full learning day with no reminders for working hard, getting smart and being kind.

Crew Shields – 22/4/21

Tremendous Thursday! Crew Shields have had a very productive day in Writing, maths and expedition. In maths, they were finding a third of amounts and understand that thirds is 3 equal parts. They are starting to use a good range of vocabulary to help answer reasoning questions. There are some children who are also starting to show their calculations and working out. This method of workings shows they understand the concept being covered in our Maths unit.

Crew Shields Average : 3.1

Targets for this week : 3.4

How can we improve?

To further improve, Crew Shields need to ensure they are moving around school in a sensible manner.

Crew Shields Get Smart Howl Hero – IJ

I was super impressed with IJ this afternoon as he could use actions to model the movement of food through the digestive system.

Crew Gerrard Blog (22/4/21)

Thrilling Thursday! Today has been our best day of the week yet. We have worked incredibly hard on our fractions and decimals today. The pride the children showed in their work was fantastic. We then worked just as hard chotting and writing up our sentences in the 10 minute time slot. We had a fantastic discussion during the afternoon session about gravity and read our letter from the European Space Agency (ESA). Our HoWL Heroes are:

Work Hard: McKenzie for contributing ideas all day, especially in Expedition this afternoon! 😁 (From Keegan)

Get Smart: Keegan for having an improved day and completing all of his tasks! 😃 (From McKenzie)

Be Kind: Skyler for having one of her best days yet in Crew Gerrard – you’ve been such a help today! 😄

Our HoWL average was 3.2! I wonder if we can all complete the chunks in 10 minutes? 😆

Daily Blog Crew Godley 22.04.2021

Today we have been busy exploring who lives on Old MacDonald’s farm – which animals and what their young are called. We paired animals together and wrote their names, we couldn’t believe what some of the young animals were called, who’s have thought a baby goat would be called a kid! I would like to praise those children who have been practising their phonics at home as we could really see those children who were independent, confident writers when writing the animal names.

We also had the pleasure of listening to the nursery rhymes we are exploring this week read by our crew. Shania and SJ read some lovely nursery rhymes to us. The rest of the crew sat beautifully showing green standard as they listened. Great crew work!

Thursday ✅

Today, we have added the finishing touches to our model of Lincoln Castle. We worked really hard to record our voice overs ready to go on our video to share with the rest of school and Lincoln Castle. We have also enjoyed our activities outside. We worked hard to make sure we were all being kind and sharing the equipment. In writing, we have been writing up our stories making sure our work was beautiful, ready to share with our grown ups at home – watch this space for a fantastic story appearing!

HOWL Heroes:

Work hard: Charlie 👏

Get smart: Darcie 👏

Be kind: Evie 👏

HOWL Score: 3 We have tried much harder today Crew Welburn. Well done 😁

Work hard Wednesday ✅

Today has been so productive, our little minds have been so busy.

Highlight of the day: The highlight of my day was watching the children grow in confidence with their reading. It was so lovely to see so many children reading words they were confident with and supporting each other when it got a little tricky. The children enjoyed Fred talk games today whilst playing ‘Simon says’ outside. The link below is to ‘Fred’s Fridge’ which I’m sure the children would love to play at home too.

Todays HoWL hero’s 🦸‍♀️
Get Smart: Skyla for excellent speeding reading of her green words

Work Hard: Lily-Mae for fantastic work in phonics.

Today’s HoWL score was another fantastic 3 🙌🏼 Let’s see if we can build on this tomorrow. The children were so mature today when thinking about their praises, wonders and apologies. I can really tell we are working hard to be Year 1 ready 🙂

Highlight of the day:

Today we worked very hard in our maths lesson, using number lines to help us answer subtraction questions. It was very tricky to subtract teen numbers but we were resilient and reached our desired standard by the end of the lesson, well done Crew!

Howl Heroes:

Work Hard: This goes to Toby for independently correcting his writing in Write Stuff, ensuring he had capital letters and full stops in his sentences, well done!

Get Smart: This goes to Stevie for going above and beyond with her adjectives in her writing about the Lion from the Wizard of Oz, great work Stevie!

Be Kind: This goes to Eva for keeping the classroom organised and keeping her group on track in maths, well done!

Howl Average: 2.3

Unfortunately we have had quite a fall from grace for our Howls today, as lots of reminders had to be given to the whole crew throughout the day and we have not seen the positive learning behaviours that we have been practicing since September. We spent some time this afternoon reflecting on our attitude towards learning and will hopefully see an improvement for tomorrow.
