Highlight of the week:

Crew Welburn have really impressed me with their writing this week in expedition lessons. We have carried out two pieces of independent writing and the quality has absolutely blown me away! I can’t believe that five and six year olds can write such amazing fact files!

We have also been working really hard in maths this week, looking at arrays. We picked this up really quickly and everyone felt really confident at making arrays for different numbers in multiple ways.

Learning legend: My learning legend this week is Darcie Fraser. Darcie has been a superstar in maths over the last half term. She has been working really hard with her addition and subtraction number sentences, and in her mental maths for her number recognition,place value and number formation. I am really impressed with how smart she has got! Keep it up Darcie!

We have had a fantastic week in Crew Wilson this week! We have worked so hard to get through all of our learning and have really demonstrated an improvement with our listening and attention!

Highlights of the Week:

Expedition: We have really enjoyed exploring the Arctic and Antarctic continents this week. We have written fact files for animals in these climates, have explored food chains and have created some fantastic pointillism footprints too!

Maths: We have continued with our arithmetic work, answering number sentences presented in different ways. We have also explored vertices and sides of 2D shapes and have had a practice at representing numbers with arrays.

Crew: We have completed lots of fun things in our daily Crew sessions this week. We have used directional language to guide our blindfolded friends around the playground, we have practiced our communication skills with whisper games and have used praise, notice and wonder as part of our gallery walk. We have loved looking back through our work and giving each other praise for what we have accomplished!

Howl Average: We have ended the week with an average score of 3.6 – a great achievement. Let’s see if we can beat it next week by working hard, getting smart and being kind.

Learning Legend:

Perrie is Crew Wilson’s learning legend this week as she always strives to achieve her best in all areas of learning. Perrie is a maths whiz and consistently gets on to extension questions in every lesson, and is trying very hard to improve her writing. Perrie is working so hard and we are so proud of all she has achieved this year!

This was another fantastic week at swimming and a session that we all enjoyed very much. It was maybe even pour favourite yet, which is a very hard choice to make, considering we love swimming so much! Today, we we went swimming in our clothes and this was for a very good reason – it was our water safety course, which we will complete next week as well. The vast majority of us managed to swim in the deep end. Those that didn’t still have next week to have a go, but they did brilliantly in the depth of water that they felt most confident in. I know many will try next week. It was difficult to pick our swimming super star this week, with so many fantastic achievements. They were:

McKenzie for being able to swim in the deep end with a ball on his front and back! (Crew G) 😀

Riley for swimming so confidently and with great skill! (Crew G) 😁

Roxanne for showing great perseverance, even with some nerves! (Crew Mc) 😃

Harry for swimming in the deep end to the rope, which was 15m away! (Crew Mc) 😄

I want to give a special shout out to Brayden who was our first pupil to swim from the deep end to the shallow end. Myself and Mrs Gilliland, along with the swimming instructors were blown away. We were really proud!

The children will need to come with the same clothing next week as well, as we continue our swimming safety! 😆

Check out all of our exciting learning from our first week back. We’ve completed lots of work for our expedition final product, worked with manipulatives in maths to support our learning and developed our relationships through team building activities in crew!

We have had a fantastic first week back after half term in Crew Wilson and we have definitely been spoiled with the beautiful weather. We seemed to have turned a corner with our attitude to learning and demonstrating our howls throughout every lesson. We’ve had a lot of 4,4,4’s this week which is a brilliant achievement. However, we still have some work to do on our chattiness so that we can get through all of the learning planned, as it isn’t very long till the end of term and we have still got lots to do before then!

Highlights of the Week:

Maths: We have been looking at splitting numbers into 10’s and 1’s, using manipulative objects to support us. It was quite tricky but we soon got the hang of it, and by the end of the lesson we were identifying the different parts of numbers up to 50! Well done Crew Wilson!

Expedition: We have had a never-ending list of tasks to complete this week for expedition, as our final product is being created next week so we had lots to finish off. We have practiced our art skills lots this week, working on colour mixing, pointillism and collage and we have created some beautiful work to go on our information board at Flamingo Land. We are very excited to see what our final product will look like when all of our work is pulled together!

Crew: In crew this week we have been working on building trust and developing communication skills, working in mini crews and pairs to complete different activities. Our favourite was our blind-folded trust walk, it was tricky to rely on a friend to guide us around the playground and not peek from under our blindfolds but we trusted our partners and did very well. Next week we will make it a bit more difficult with an assault course to navigate, watch this space!

Howl Average:

We have ended the week on a 3.7 – a very good score for us! Let’s keep this momentum going and work very hard, get even smarter and be kind all the way up to the summer holidays!

Great work this week Crew Wilson, I am very proud of all we have achieved in our first week back!

We have had a lovely sunny start to the final half term in F1. ☀️ The children have come back with such a positive attitude and are going to make this the best term yet!

We started our week off with some crew building. We used blocks to see how big we could build a tower. 👷🏻 The children worked in mini crews before coming together to share their ideas. We talked about the best way the place the blocks and how we can make the tower stronger. Most importantly we learnt a lot about sharing, working together and how this makes a strong crew. 👫🏻

To finish our week we acted out our story: What the Ladybird Heard! 🐞 We used the masks we made in creative with Mrs Rafter so that we looked like the animals in the story! We did a great job and together we confused Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len so much that they fell in the pond and couldn’t take the fine prize cow! 🐄 A big thank you to Ebony, Keya, Freya, Isaac, Keya and Freya from Crew Fox for your help. You were amazing actors 👏🏻

Crew HoWLopoly wheel

We span the wheel for our improved weekly HoWL average from last term and the children got what they wanted…number 1… a lesson fun pass. So they have chosen to swap writing on Monday and do a fun PE session instead. I suppose I should be thankful it didn’t land on wet sponge your teacher 😬

We have been calculating the perimeter of compound and rectilinear shapes. This has put our shape and addition knowledge to the test, but we have loved the challenge!

Practising our sketching techniques in the sunshine… any opportunity to have a photo but in true Crew Mc style half of them ran out of the shot.

The children have come back to school this week ready and raring to go in the final half term of the year. With only a short time left as crew Ferguson they have really tried had to complete all their learning to a high standard ensuring they really are producing beautiful work. They have blown me away bringing their final expedition pieces together. They have really worked as a crew to create facts, food chains and art work to showcase at Flamingo land during the summer. All their work and ideas are being sent to the designers on Tuesday! We can’t wait to see them made into display boards. 😍

Flamingo land: children across Key stage one have worked extremely hard during the last few weeks to create information which will be showcased at Flamingo land zoo during the summer holidays. Their work will be displayed on 2 professionally made weather proof boards to ensure the general public can gain a real insight into the incredible children we have here at Carcroft school.

As a treat for all their efforts the children finished the week off with an icecream 🍦

A great first week back for Crew Fox 🦊.

We’ve absolutely smashed ratio in maths sessions! Lots of reasoning and problem solving to really deepen our understanding of calculating ratio.

Our English sessions have been filled with adventurous writing to create a character description of the mysterious character from a short flip clip ‘Roads End’. The crew have generated some great ideas independently and this has proven how far they’ve come since September!

We are so close to finalising our expedition, ‘How has space shaped our past and how will it shape our future?’ So watch this space for our final product…
