A very busy week in EYFS crews, check out what we have been up to!

Check out all of our learning from this week in Key Stage One. We’ve been team building in Crew, investigating shapes and arrays in Maths and continuing with our expedition question “How do animals adapt to their habitats?”.

This has been an exciting week as it has seen us complete our second case study in expedition.

During the case study, the children had to design a healthy lunchbox based on the Eatwell guide. Crew Shields worked as mini crews to design and present their ideas. They then voted for their favourite which was the lunch they made.

Their lunchbox was a chicken,cheese and lettuce wrap with mayo. Cucumber and carrot sticks with a yoghurt, pure orange and a small cake bar for a balanced meal.

On Thursday afternoon, we made our lunch while also learning about the importance of life skills and hygiene when cooking. The children had the opportunity to cut, peel, grate and ensure they presented it well. I am extremely Proud of how the children conducted themselves.

We were lucky enough to have Mr Tucker, Miss Whitehead and Aimee from the kitchen join us judge our products.

Chloe and Georgie presented our design along with the other crews. They did a great job of this and shared their books that showed their instructions and itinerary.

Crew Shields were the winners. The judges loved how the children not only wrote clear instructions to make their lunch but also considered the hygiene aspects such as washing hands, tying up hair and washing the fruit/vegetables.

I would like to say a massive well done to the Crew Shields, it was a well deserved win!

A fun week in UKS2! 😆

What a busy week. This week we have had smiles and tears across the week, as we learnt. experienced. innovated and waved good bye to new friends.

In Maths this week, we have continued learning about fractions. We tried our hand at comparing and ordering. Even though it is such a tricky concept, we have been blown away by the children’s perseverance.

Writing, has seen us continue creating non-fiction reports on the different parts of the digestive system . This will eventually be displayed our expedition finished product.

Expedition saw us designing, making and tasting our healthy packed lunches, as part our expedition – Why is the body a miraculous machine? The children thought about the healthy eating wheel, created their own, discussed and refined as a crew and then refined further to create one whole crew packed lunch. Thursday saw us create and taste this, before presenting to the judging panel. We were absolutely delighted with the way all the children shared the process and the bravery for each of our crew mates to talk in front of the phase.

Sadly, this week also saw us wave goodbye to our three fabulous trainee teachers. We have loved having them join our crew and we are sure they will go on to become fabulous teachers in the year to come.

Highlight of the week:

Crew Welburn have really impressed me with their writing this week in expedition lessons. We have carried out two pieces of independent writing and the quality has absolutely blown me away! I can’t believe that five and six year olds can write such amazing fact files!

We have also been working really hard in maths this week, looking at arrays. We picked this up really quickly and everyone felt really confident at making arrays for different numbers in multiple ways.

Learning legend: My learning legend this week is Darcie Fraser. Darcie has been a superstar in maths over the last half term. She has been working really hard with her addition and subtraction number sentences, and in her mental maths for her number recognition,place value and number formation. I am really impressed with how smart she has got! Keep it up Darcie!

We have had a fantastic week in Crew Wilson this week! We have worked so hard to get through all of our learning and have really demonstrated an improvement with our listening and attention!

Highlights of the Week:

Expedition: We have really enjoyed exploring the Arctic and Antarctic continents this week. We have written fact files for animals in these climates, have explored food chains and have created some fantastic pointillism footprints too!

Maths: We have continued with our arithmetic work, answering number sentences presented in different ways. We have also explored vertices and sides of 2D shapes and have had a practice at representing numbers with arrays.

Crew: We have completed lots of fun things in our daily Crew sessions this week. We have used directional language to guide our blindfolded friends around the playground, we have practiced our communication skills with whisper games and have used praise, notice and wonder as part of our gallery walk. We have loved looking back through our work and giving each other praise for what we have accomplished!

Howl Average: We have ended the week with an average score of 3.6 – a great achievement. Let’s see if we can beat it next week by working hard, getting smart and being kind.

Learning Legend:

Perrie is Crew Wilson’s learning legend this week as she always strives to achieve her best in all areas of learning. Perrie is a maths whiz and consistently gets on to extension questions in every lesson, and is trying very hard to improve her writing. Perrie is working so hard and we are so proud of all she has achieved this year!

This was another fantastic week at swimming and a session that we all enjoyed very much. It was maybe even pour favourite yet, which is a very hard choice to make, considering we love swimming so much! Today, we we went swimming in our clothes and this was for a very good reason – it was our water safety course, which we will complete next week as well. The vast majority of us managed to swim in the deep end. Those that didn’t still have next week to have a go, but they did brilliantly in the depth of water that they felt most confident in. I know many will try next week. It was difficult to pick our swimming super star this week, with so many fantastic achievements. They were:

McKenzie for being able to swim in the deep end with a ball on his front and back! (Crew G) 😀

Riley for swimming so confidently and with great skill! (Crew G) 😁

Roxanne for showing great perseverance, even with some nerves! (Crew Mc) 😃

Harry for swimming in the deep end to the rope, which was 15m away! (Crew Mc) 😄

I want to give a special shout out to Brayden who was our first pupil to swim from the deep end to the shallow end. Myself and Mrs Gilliland, along with the swimming instructors were blown away. We were really proud!

The children will need to come with the same clothing next week as well, as we continue our swimming safety! 😆
