Crew Shields started the week with some team building which involved a lot of concentration and communication. The children worked as mini crews to lower the hula hoop to the floor using just their fingertips. They found this tricky to start but preserved until they were successful.
In writing, we started our new unit of a non chronological report about the digestive system. This is a new form of writing for the children but they have made a great start.
This has been a much improved week for Crew Shields with our Howls. It has been lovely seeing the children consistently work hard, get smart and be kind. 😁
We have had a much improved week in Crew Gerrard, which is great for our first week back after half term. It’s been a busy one and I’m pleased to see a desire to learn. Crew Gerrard know that there is not much time left until they are Year 6s and they are keen to be ready to hit the ground running in the new academic year.
In writing, we have been collaborating with each other. It’s been great fun to watch Crew Gerrard work together and think of interesting vocabulary, which will add to their writing. They have loved learning about our new and creepy video Road’s End and I am sure all of the hard work will pay off. I can’t wait to read them Crew Gerrard!
In Maths, we have been learning about perimeter. This has been a fun challenge for Crew Gerrard, as they started off the week by measuring and are now confident in finding the perimeter for rectilinear shapes. It’s been fantastic to see the children working hard to challenge their learning, in order to get smart!

Our art sessions have been fun and required patience, as Crew Gerrard worked on their independent pieces of art. I have been impressed by how resilient the children have been, as we have had to complete a couple of drafts. The effort has certainly been worth it and I am pleased with how our sketches are looking!

As I have said, this week has been much improved by our Crew. We have had a really solid week. We all need to ensure that we are working as part of our Crew, so that we are helping push each other on. Our HoWL average for the week was 2.6 and I want to see that rise next week. Enjoy your weekend! 😆
We have had a lovely first week back in Crew Welburn, and the sunshine has made it even better as we’ve been able to move some of our expedition lessons outside! We have worked really well on all of our HOWLs this week, and our scores have been amazing! We’ve really impressed our teachers in expedition as well as we’ve started to pull together our pieces of work for our final products. This week, we’ve also been trying extra hard to be kind, and the crew pointed this out on Tuesday as they praised each other at the end of the day for playing so nicely together in the afternoon. This was really lovely to hear from the children and I am sure it will continue throughout the rest of this half term. We used crew time on Tuesday to build different relationships in our crew by working with someone we do not usually work with. We had to use our communication skills and trust to guide each other around the obstacle course wearing blindfolds!

Before half term, Carcroft Primary School participated in football week, this was a great opportunity for crews to show their sportsmanship, football skills and take part in a competitive sport.
Crew Boswell and Crew Marsh both won a spin on the wheel for getting great HOWLS the last week before half term, so tomorrow will be a non-school uniform day for both crews.
We may have had a week off of school, but our enthusiasm was still just as high as before for swimming. The children were excited to say the least. We recapped our safety, just to make sure that we hadn’t forgotten and then went straight into the deep end. It was amazing to see so many go in there for the first time and how bravely they took on this new challenge. Jumping in is probably the favourite part for most of us. Those who weren’t in the deep end have made some fantastic progress, too. They have been able to complete some more floating techniques, managed to perfect their push & glides, plus they have been able to swim without floats. This is fantastic! Another difficult decision for the swimming super stars, but they were:
Brayden for showing fantastic listening and brilliant technique. His glide was perfect and I think it could have gone on for even longer! (Crew G) 😀

During the next two weeks, we will be going into the pool clothed, to further develop our skills. Can you make sure that the clothing is either pyjamas or shirt and shorts. The children don’t need to wear shoes, jeans or anything baggy. Any questions, then just ask! 😆
