Crew Kent Blog 5.10.20

Today, we could’ve given anyone HOWL hero… but the lucky 3 were:

Work hard: Milena 👩

Get smart: Crystal 👩

Be kind: McKenzie and Keegan 🐱‍👤

🤩 We are super proud to say that our HOWL average today is 3.0! We’ve worked super hard to achieve this and we’re really now thinking about what each HOWL really means.

Well done Crew Kent 👍

Daily Blog 2.10.20

A fabulous Friday in Crew Flaherty today. What a busy but fun week we have had.

Highlights of the week:

Celebrating our first month back at school with our Crew and seeing lots of smiling faces when they were completing their 3 activities.

In our morning crew sessions this week, we have been focussing on our Be Kind HOWL. It has been lovely to hear all the children’s ideas about how they can be kind to one another and to people in their community. We’ve had suggestions about how we would help someone who was hurt, how we would let them know we are kind and how we are there to help. We have talked about how we share our resources and how it is important to communicate to each other when we share our resources.

Today, in science we worked in ‘mini crews’ to consolidate our learning about the different stages the human life cycle. It was lovely to see the children discussing their ideas and sharing the resources Not only did your kindness impress me this morning Crew Flaherty but so did your presentation skills when you shared information about our basic needs. You all played a role to support your ‘mini crew’. Keep up the hard work, Crew Flaherty.

Learning Legend

Our learning legend this week is Daisy. Daisy has not only worked hard in all her lessons but she has challenged herself in English. I am so impressed with your positive attitude to writing Daisy.

Handwriting

Our golden ticket for the most improved handwriting this week has to be Amelia. She has listened carefully to feedback regarding her presentation in her books and her letter formation continues to improve. Keep it Amelia.

HOWLs

Our Crew average for the day was an amazing 3.7. Well done everyone.

Our weekly Crew average is an incredible score. In fact, Crew Flaherty it is our highest weekly score since we started in September. This just shows how amazing you are.

HOWL heroes

Work Hard

Amelia – for staying focused on her learning and having a positive attitude to complete her task in science.

Get Smart

Jenson – for listening carefully to everyone in his Crew

Be Kind

Brodie – for being a kind friend and using his manners all the time.

I wonder who will be our HOWL heroes next week.

Crew Elmer Daily Blog 02.10.20

Happy Friday People! 🙌

Yay! 😁 Lots of us in Crew Elmer were very grateful that it is Friday today as we are just soooo tired after what has felt like such a long week! 💤

Star moment of the day: ⭐

There have been many star moments ⭐ of today but the number one highlight was how hard children worked in our Science lesson this morning to write up their experiments in preparation for carrying out our investigation next week! I also loved how enthusiastic the children were about conducting the experiment next week. Their predictions were also on point and every crew member was able to justify these. Excellent scientists 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 Crew Elmer! Well done! 👏

Another ‘Star moment of the day’ ⭐ was Lily-Beth being awarded the ‘Golden Ticket’ for most improved handwriting this week. She was awarded with a special ‘cake and shake’ with Miss Laing and some other children and as you can see from the pictures Crew Elmer and myself were not jealous at all! 🤣😂🤣

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.3

WOW! 🤩 I think that this is the highest daily HoWL average that we have had so far! I believe this is down to how hard lots of the children have worked today and also because we almost had a full Crew house! 👍 I wonder… can we keep this up?

This week’s HoWL target is: 3.0

How can we improve this next week?

Next week, Crew Elmer need to continue to work hard and have a positive attitude towards their learning at all times, as well as remembering to be kind to ALL crew members. I know we can do it Crew Elmer! 👍

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Rowan for our HoWL hero today! This boy has worked incredibly hard all day and even achieved ‘green standard’ in his maths work today! He has also kept a positive attitude towards his learning ALL day! 👍 The whole of Crew Elmer were incredibly proud! 🤩 Amazing work Rowan! ⭐ Well done! 👏

Learning legend:

This weeks ‘Learning Legend’ was Kacey-Leigh! Kacey-Leigh is another quiet member of our class but she stands out for all three of the HoWLS and is often praised for this reason in our end of the day Crew sessions. Kacey-Leigh always tries her best even when things are rather challenging for her. She has learnt to use the 3 B’s before me and this has been really effective in enabling her to achieve ‘Gold Standard’ in many lessons this week. She also focuses on her work and learning at all times even if that means moving her chair to face the board, put her hand up or even move tables if a child is disturbing her learning; she is incredibly mature in this sense. Kacey-Leigh is also incredibly kind to both staff and her crew members and it is lovely to hear her crew members praise her so much after crew playtimes. Excellent work Kaey-Leigh! You are a great asset to Crew Elmer! 🥇👏👍🙌🤩

Our Howl Hero today is Sophia! Well Done! I am sure she will be super excited to tell everyone at home.

Learning Legend:

Our Learning Legend is Layton E.

We have been absolutely blown away by this young man since September, but especially the last couple of weeks. His enthusiasm, cheeky grin and sense of humour make everyday special. But the reason I am especially please with is his developing love of learning. He is willing to persevere for longer and is really feeling a sense of pride as he achieves his learning target for the day. I genuinely believe this young man has a very big future in front of him.
Well done Layton!

Crew Godley Weekly Review 02.10.2020

What a busy week we have had in Crew Godley!

The children have been working hard developing their understanding of what ‘Gold and Green Standard’ looks like in our classroom – how we Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind. We have introduced a visual aid to help children, they have been trying ever so hard to ensure they are on Gold Standard most of the time. We will be working hard next week to make sure ALL crew members are demonstrating this standard by making sure we are using our listening ears when it’s time to follow simple instructions.

The crew have been working so hard this week on their phonics and have made me so proud! We are making fantastic progress and will be sending home some resources to help you support your child with their phonics. This week, everyone has had a go and have joined in with our lessons which is brilliant to see!

Today we continued to practise blending sounds together. We introduced a new activity using magnetic letters, we listened carefully to instructions and were able to use our segmenting and blending skills to make our very own words.

SJ’s amazing blending IMG_7092

During the next couple of weeks the children will bring home a phonics keyring. This keying will contain the sounds we have covered in class. Please practise the sounds regularly at home to ensure children can recall the sounds confidently. Keyrings will need to be returned daily to enable us to add new sounds. Some of the children will be feeling confident with these sounds already and we ask that these children practise making words using the sounds e.g. Can you make the word as, it, sat, nap. You can also make a word and ask your child to blend the sounds together to read the word you have made.

When learning the sounds with your child it is really important to ensure they pronounce the sounds correctly. This video will show you how each sound should be pronounced. It is really important that children learn to pronounce the sounds correctly as it will make it easier for them to read words.

Work Hard: This Howl today goes to, Summer, Reggie and Dominic.

Summer did an amazing job in phonics this week and created some beautiful work. She tried ever so hard with her handwriting and used the magnetic letters confidently to spell CVC words.

Reggie has tried ever so hard to be a good role model within our crew and today was Dputy Crew Leader. A role he took very seriously helping Crew Leaders ensure all children were displaying ‘Gold Standard’ learning behaviours.

Dominic has been working hard to ensure that he is producing beautiful work. He has been trying hard to write his name and create some beautiful art work for our expedition work. Keep up the great work Dom!

Enjoy the weekend everyone! We would also like to wish Kyla a very happy 5th birthday tomorrow, we hope you have lots of fun and can’t wait to hear all about it on Monday 🎈🍰

Crew Thiede weekly round up

Another wonderful week is over, it’s been a very busy one!

Maths 🧮 – this week in maths we have been working hard on comparing and ordering numbers including using the mathematical symbols <, > and =. We used lots of equipment to help us and even ordered people in our class! We must of had fun because some crew mates have even been ordering things in their homes!

Write Stuff ✏ – we have been doing lots of exploring during writing this week. We wondered about stars, clouds, birds, lollipops and playgrounds. We have been getting smart by banishing words like ‘happy’ so that we can use higher level words.

Expedition 🎨 – we began a new case study this week! We have started looking at the artist Keith Harring and how we can create tiles in his style. We started this by mixing paint to create colour  wheels using primary and secondary colours.

Celebration day 🎊 – we loved our celebration day! We made yummy pizza, did exciting cojo and created interesting stories! We even had a golden ticket winner!

Crew Wilson Weekly Review: 02/10/2020

It is Friday and we have had an awesome week in Crew Wilson!

We have whizzed through so much learning this week, and the Crew are becoming much more resilient with their learning – everyone is having a go and joining in with our lessons which is brilliant to see! We are also nailing what ‘Green Standard’ looks like around the classroom, and the Crew only need 1 reminder now to show me this – we are making good progress every day!

Highlights of the Week:

Science: In Science we have been learning all about the human body and senses. Today we explored taste by experiencing some different flavours – sweet, sour and salty. We had a good look at each others tongues first, then tried some different foods.Reactions were…..mixed to say the least, and some of the faces that were pulled were hilarious! The Crew responded really well to this lesson and are confident in identifying different flavours, as well as explaining how their tongue recognises them via tastebuds – and we all agreed that olives are disgusting!

Taste testing lemons:

Computing: Continuing with our directional language and coding lessons, the Crew have been so engaged when using the BeeBot, working together to program directions and reminding each other of the correct method to input instructions. This week we used a large map and the Crew had to reach the X, whilst dodging obstacles along the way. We also seem to have cracked using laptops this week (now we know they aren’t touch screen!) The Crew  have shown a deep understanding of directional language when moving the BeeBot around a virtual map and were great at assisting each other when issues arose and the Beebot disappeared into the sea, great team work guys!

Maths: Who knew that using Skittles in maths to assist counting would be such a memorable lesson? So memorable that they’ve asked for it every day since?! The children really enjoyed using different materials to help with matching numbers to groups, especially when the material is edible! We have also created number lines as a group and jumped down them for one less, we’ve fed the Hungry Caterpillar and we have sang 10 Green Bottles at least 20 times! All of these activities have helped the crew understand what we mean by one more and one less, as well as 1:1 correspondence – lots of big brains in Crew Wilson this week! Test your children to see if they can represent numbers in different ways!

Howl Heroes

Work Hard: This Howl goes to April for her fantastic attitude to her learning. April consistently aims for Green Standard in everything she does and it is great to see such a motivated member of our crew excelling in her learning – Well done April!

Get Smart: This Howl goes to Daisy for being a brilliant scientist in our Science lesson today. Daisy was eager to try the different flavours and worked really hard with her Crew to categorise them by taste, well done Daisy!

Be Kind: This Howl goes to Dalton, for always displaying Green Standard on the carpet, at tables, in the corridor and the dinner hall. I can always rely on Dalton to be a role model for his crew, and he is kind to his teachers by following instructions first time, keep it up Dalton!

Learning Legend

A good week for Dalton as he is also our Learning Legend, and received a certificate in our virtual achievers assembly. Dalton always gives 110% to every lesson, he is always concentrating on meeting his learning intention and is a fantastic Independent group leader, well done Dalton!

Howl Average:

We ended the week on a 3.4 – not our best score so far but we know what we need to do as both a Crew and personally to get that score higher.

Another fabulous week of learning, collaboration and fun is completed in Crew Wilson.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review

Friday✔

I am so proud of the children this week. They have really worked hard together as a crew to complete challenges and cheer each other on. Well done Crew Welburn 😁

Highlights from the week:

Science:

I love teaching our science lessons in Crew Welburn as the children are so inquisitive and have so many questions that they want to find the answers to. This week, we have been looking at how our tongue helps us to taste. We had lots of fun tasting different foods and classifying them into sweet, sour and salty. Take a look at some of the photos…

Phonics:

I am really proud of all of the children this week in their phonics lessons. They have worked so hard at blending words independently and are trying really hard to read their green words. They are all so determined and it is brilliant to see 🙌🙌

Our HOWL Heroes:

Work Hard: Mason was my HOWL hero for work hard today. All the way through the science lesson, he worked hard at sitting smartly, kept his blindfold on and shared what he thought the foods were.

Get Smart: Kairen is my get smart HOWL hero today. He showed just how well he had listened during the inputs today by using the correct vocabulary to describe the foods he had tasted.

Be Kind: Nathan was awarded our be kind HOWL hero for sharing really well in PE this afternoon. This was a really kind thing to do 😊

This week’s Learning Legend:

This week’s Learning Legend is Tiarna. Tiarna has been an absolute superstar since coming into Year 1. She is showing that she works hard all of the time by listening carefully to adults, sharing her ideas and following all instructions. Tiarna is also going above and beyond with her manners to make sure she always uses her pleases and thank you’s, and she even makes sure she holds doors open to help her crew out! This is fantastic Tiarna!
