Crew Wilson Daily Blog: 10/11/2020

We have had a tremendous Tuesday and a great first day back after the teacher training day!

Highlight of the Day:

Today we have smashed our writing targets in both our Write Stuff and Expedition lessons! We have had some fantastically resilient members of the Crew today who have been working collaboratively to construct descriptive sentences together which is not an easy thing to do at five years old, well done Crew Wilson!

Howl Heroes:

Work Hard: Our work hard Howl goes to Debbie-Mae today for her brilliantly descriptive sentence that she wrote almost independently in Write Stuff, well done!

Get Smart: This howl goes to Aleks, as he has been so engaged in every lesson, he has been one of the first to provide an answer for every question and tried so hard in phonics, keep it up Aleks!

Be Kind: This howl goes to Perrie as she is such a kind member of Crew Wilson and can always be counted on to help anyone without having to be asked, well done!

Howl Average:

We ended today on a 3.3 average, lots of 4’s across the board, lets keep this momentum going for the rest of the week!

Howl Heroes:

Crew Shields – 10/11/20

Today we have enjoyed working on our coding skills in Computing. We have become more confident with our skills and we even have some experts immerging in the classroom. The children were able to follow a set of instructions to make their character move.  It is lovely to see the children demonstrate their speaking and listening skills aswell as working as a crew to complete the task.

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.9

Our Weekly HoWL target is: 3.0

How can we develop this tomorrow?

To improve further, Crew Shields need to work on their independence and ensuring they are taking pride in their presentation.

Our Get Smart hero today is Alicia!

Alicia has been a little superstar today. She has been working hard in all subjects and this is starting to show. In Maths, she got all of her questions correct because she took her time and had listened carefully to the input. Well done!

Crew Gerrard (10/11/20)

Hi everyone,

We’ve had a really solid day and returned really well for this shorter week. I’m really impressed, in particular, with how hard we have worked. Your attitudes have been fantastic. It was difficult to choose the HoWL heroes for today and they are:

Working hard: Emily 🦸‍♂️

Get smart: Ellie-May 🦸‍♂️

Being kind: Alicia 🦸‍♂️

Our HoWL average was 3.0!

I know that tomorrow will be even better! 😆

Crew Kent Blog 10.11.20

Today, we could’ve given anyone HOWL hero… but the lucky 3 were:

Work hard: Grace 👩

Get smart: Lexie 👩

Be kind: Chloe 👩

🤩 We are super proud to say that our HOWL average today is 2.9! We’ve worked super hard to achieve this and we’re really now thinking about what each HOWL really means.

Well done Crew Kent 👍

RWI in Crew Godley

Starting in Nursery, pupils are given a huge range of opportunities for purposeful mark making in provision and begin to ascribe meaning to their marks ✏ Daily activities to develop gross and fine motor skills support pupils in gaining the early skills needed for handwriting 📑

In Early Years, our pupils learn to read and write effectively and quickly using the Read Write Inc.(RWI) Phonics programme. RWI is a method of learning centred round letter sounds and phonics, and we use it to aid children in their early reading and writing.

Reading opens the door to learning 🎓 A child who reads will become a good reader 📚 A good reader will be able to read more challenging material – a child who reads challenging material is a child who will learn. The more a child learns, the more he or she will want to find out 😊

Using RWI, the children learn to read effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into comprehending (understand and infer) what they read.

When using RWI to read the children will:

  • Learn 44 sounds and the corresponding letter/letter groups using simple picture prompts.
  • Learn to read words using Fred Talk🐸
  • Read lively stories featuring words they have learned to sound out.
  • Show that they comprehend the stories by answering questions.

When using RWI to write the children will:

  • Learn to write the letters/letter groups which represent 44 sounds.
  • Learn to write words by saying the sounds in Fred Talk 🐸
  • Write simple sentences.

Below are information videos which will give you an insight into the phonics delivery in school.

LKS2 mining displays

LKS2 Mining display

Why should we be proud to be part of the Carcroft community?

Here is LKS2’s first displays of the year. The children have worked incredibly hard this half term to learn about mining and the miners. We have created artwork for pit top, diary entries as a miner and thought about why we are proud of carcroft.

Well done everyone!

Crew Longley 06.11.2020

RWI Reading and Homework

This week we had 11 out of 17 children complete their homework and read their books. This is a good start.

Well done to those children who enjoyed a lucky dip treat!
