This week, we have been discussing the qualities that make us a good friend. Children shared with their peers how they were good friends to others. Lovely to hear them saying they are helpful, kind, thoughtful and considerate towards others.

Today we consolidated our unit on the Christian faith. We loved the Kahoot quiz and we were top of the class with everything we had remembered! We can wait to see which religion we will study next!
This week we have been looking at fireworks and listening to halloween songs!
This week we were very excited to learn all about pumpkins! We looked closely at them and discovered they grew out of the ground, were orange, had seeds inside and smelt very strong! Some of Crew Dorman liked the smell and said “It smells like apples!” and some of us just said “Yuk!”
Outdoors, we had the opportunity to work on our fine motor skills, using hammers and pegs to pierce the thick pumpkin skins. We also worked on scooping out the gooey insides with scoops and spoons building up our hand muscles for our writing skills!
We talked about the pumpkins a lot and were heard saying words like “gooey, slimy, seeds, stinky and smooth!” We even decided to use the pumpkins in our imaginative play transporting them from the shop in our bike with a trailer and using our mud kitchen to pretend to cook pumpkin pie and soup!
This afternoon Crew Thompson started dodgeball in PE. We focussed on developing our aim as this is a key component in a dodgeball game. We first had a hoop on the floor that we had to aim for. Then this progresses to picking the hoop up and moving it. We discussed how the throw would change depending on speed and distance. We can’t wait to keep developing our dodgeball skills and eventually play a huge game! 🏐
On Monday morning, Crew Dorman had our very first PE session in the big hall. We were learning how to move safely in the space without bumping into anybody and how to move in imaginative ways using our whole body. We decided we would see how much fun it would be pretending to be witches and wizards. Our PE session started with a poem all about witches and wizards and finished with crew time to share our praise for imaginative moves! We can’t wait for next Monday for more exciting PE lessons!
This week, we have been grouping objects and talking about similarities and differences in maths! We’ve used our natural objects to create groups, and used the language, ‘more than’ and ‘less than’ to compare the groups.
This morning we worked really hard and have been exploring our fraction wall. At first we thought that the bigger then number, the bigger the fraction but we soon learnt that was not the case. Actually, the bigger the denominator, the smaller the fraction.
In today’s experience lesson we read about how Florence Nightingale looked after the poorly soldiers when it got dark. We learnt she was also called the lady of the lamp as she carried a lamp around with her in the evening. In our experience lesson we all created our own lamp to be able to be just like Florence. It was a tricky cutting and sticking task but we all followed the instructions.
Today we used concrete and pictorial objects to help us with our new block of maths, measures! We all worked well with our partner discussing how we could measure objects and reasoned why we selected the order in which we placed objects.
