Today we started our place value unit with a practical maths lesson. We used base 10 to represent numbers to 100. It was great to see how much the children knew about tens and ones!

Today in xp outdoors the children made spiders from toilet tubes. They used scissors to make the legs, painted it black and then gave it some eyes.

In KS1 we are answering the guiding question, What will I do to be a hero in our community? To begin our expedition we are exploring firefighters 🚒 a very brave hero!
To hook us into our new writing we looked into our new book – Vlad and the Great Fire of London. We pieced together the book front cover, predicted what might happen and then became bakers for the morning, experiencing how Vlad and Boxton would have felt in the bakers shop. We baked and tasted some delicious bread 🥖

We have loved our first football club today, thanks coach 🥰

It’s been a fun-filled first week back in Crew MW. We have been extremely busy exploring our new learning environment, working together in provision and catching up after our summer holidays. We have particularly enjoyed playing in the home corner, listening to stories on the Yoto player, and getting our groove on in the music area!

Today we completed our art project, printing! Over the last 3 days we have carefully designed our print, crafted the template and then printed it onto card. First we had to think about the design, something to represent us and our hobbies. We then meticulously added the string to our template, making sure we followed our design and had the string in the right places. Finally, we then painted the string on the design and printed it onto card. The results are fantastic and really show how hard Crew Thompson worked and concentrated. Well done! 🎉

Today I had the pleasure of spending an hour with Crew Marsh during their first English lesson. They listened again to the Rainbow Fish story and talked about how this linked to our ‘be kind’ HoWLs. Then they completed some activities linked to their ‘be kind’ story to help them to really understand the importance of being kind in Crew Marsh and how being unkind can make people feel.
I was blown away by the way they all concentrated throughout the lesson. They carefully watched Miss Marsh model sentence writing and then had a go. I cannot believe how amazing they did. I also loved seeing the children work independently in their labs creating their fish.

Crew Robson and Crew Godley have been working hard, to get smart today by creating their own colour wheels using their art skills. We will be using our background knowledge to create a piece of crew art work tomorrow – watch this space!
We began by exploring what a colour wheel is and how we can vary shades and tints of colours by adding black or white. We were amazed by the children’s resilience and determination to achieve the desired effect.

Today we carried on with our art learning. Children had to create their printing block based on their interests. They’d been asked to create an image that represents them. It was lovely seeing some of the children supporting their peers when they’d completed their own.
Then it was time to print which required children to work quickly and carefully. It’s important to not allow the paint to dry otherwise the print would be unsuccessful. We discussed how we could improve if we were to complete the project again. Children suggested making their images bigger or using more paint which would allow a clearer image.

Despite it being the first day back, Crew Shields made a visit to the library so that children could get cracking with reading at home. We know the importance of reading regularly to support children with their fluency and understanding. We discuss that I will be checking books on a Friday and recording their reading sessions. Raffles up for grabs for those avid readers.
