As part of our final product artwork, we have each created an image of a tree. Between us we have added leaves and colour to our trees to represent the four seasons of the year; Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. We can’t wait to see what will happen next to our pictures – how will they come together to make our final product?! Watch this space!
We have loved basketball club today!
In writing, we have been using our reading text to help us build background knowledge and start chotting some ideas to support our writing. Each group had a small amount of text to read and then they had to summarise for the rest of the crew. We have discovered that summarising is a skill that we will need to develop during our time in year 4.

Y2 have been gathering historical information this week about the Great Fire of London, we discovered the fire started in Pudding Lane in 1666. There was no fire brigade in London so Londoners had to fight the fire with the help of the soldiers. They used buckets of water and fire hooks. We looked at how this differed today, how our firefighters could have helped with the equipment in the present day. To test our knowledge about fire fighters in the present day we took part in our first Kahoot quiz, it was a tough one!
Crew Godley had a fantastic time with Mick developing our crew building skills. We had to listen, collaborate and show resilience. It was tricky at times but we worked together to achieve the end goals.
We loved having our reading cafe again this week, it is every Thursday at 3pm.
Thank you to all of the lovely grown ups who came to Crew MW’s stay and engage this morning! We had such a lovely time outside in the forest are making our sun catchers with you ☀️
Today we have learnt how to be safe around fire. The main thing we learnt and practised was being able to stop, drop and roll if any items of clothing caught fire.
Hello Everyone!
We are yet again looking for some volunteers (across all crews) to come into school and listen to some children read on a 1:1 basis.
Scarily, 1 in 4 children leave primary school unable to read well, resulting in life long consequences. It is our mission at Carcroft to ensure that all of our children leave our school able to read well.
If you have some time to spare, a day, a few hours or even an hour, and enjoy spending time with children then we would love it if you could come and help us to support our children with reading.
We hope that from this experience our children will become better readers and develop a stronger love for reading and for you to gain an enormous amount of pleasure from seeing the difference that a few hours can make to a child’s reading ability, confidence and enjoyment.
Ideally we would appreciate volunteers giving us their time for as long as possible, however if you are only able to commit to a few weeks or months then please do not hesitate to enquire.
If you feel like this is something that you can offer then please pop into the school office who will be able to provide you with more details.
