Christmas Art

Crew Hamill continued their Christmas art today by practicing some art skills required for their final piece whilst also producing their first drafts. We used outlines of heads which had been split into segments to practice our small brush strokes and our accuracy. We weren’t allowed to go over the lines and we had to make sure we used small brush strokes which will be required for our final piece.

Once we had done this, we then drew some circles that mimic the shape of our final piece and produced a step by step draft of the design we will be painting on to our Christmas baubles. This gave us multiple attempts at perfecting our brush strokes and making sure we were happy with the shape and design.

Creating our cam toys

This afternoon, we began to create our cam toys, working in our pairs. This required patience and collaborating clearly with our partners. Next, we will paint our designs and add the representations of the Earth, Moon and Sun.

Exploring Picasso in MI

Today we continued with with our art slice where we did more research on our artist Pablo Picasso. This added to our work from last week where we carried out some critique on some of Picasso’s pieces of art. We then explored the artwork that we would use as our stimulus for our wooden cookie slice. We unpicked a model then had a go at our first draft using Mrs McClare’s step by step model. We offered critique to our partners first draft then used feedback to have another go. We took part in a gallery walk to observe our peers work, thinking about the sizes and shapes they had used. We then worked again on our own pieces. We are enjoying redrafting our work to make it better.

DT – Creating our product

Crew Hamill have worked really hard during Case Study 3 – Design and Technology – to look at creating a moving toy that has a mechanism inside it. We have worked hard to plan out what our product is going to look like, concentrating on measurements as well as the design itself. We have then begun to follow step by step instructions to begin to bring our designs to life!

Art in MI

We are really enjoying our art case study where we are working hard on our perspective drawing. This is something we have found very challenging however we are all showing great resilience. We have practised some of the skills many times to ensure we get things just right on our final piece.

Remembrance Day 2024

Crew McGlone have spent time over the last week discussing why it is important for us to think about those people who helped and continue to help to keep our country safe, and thank them for everything they do. We created fork paintings of poppies that Miss McGlone put together into a wreath for our whole school Remembrance Day display.

We then also made our own poppies using apples and carrots to print with inside a laminating pouch. Once they were dry, they were put through the laminator and we have put them on our classroom windows.
