Work hard Wednesday!

The children have been developing their fine motor skills each morning by completing various morning activities when they come into school ✏ We have been focusing on developing our handwriting skills this week ✍ writing not only our first names but our second names too! This is a great achievement and a vital skill the children need to ensure they can write their own name on their masterpieces to take home 😊 We have thought carefully about our letter sizing and formation. We have some beautiful handwriting in Crew Godley, you wouldn’t believe some children are still only four years old! I will be showcasing some of this work tomorrow to show you just how proud I am ❤

I would like to encourage all parents to support their children in writing their own name independently, this is the minimum expected standard when the children enter F2. I am so impressed with how the children are progressing with this and with a little encouragement all the children will achieve this.

Todays HoWL hero is…… drum roll…….. Shelby. Shelby has worked so hard today in phonics, she was determined and resilient. She certainly worked hard, to get smart, producing some beautiful work.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Terrific Tuesday!

Highlight of our day today was our ‘space mile’. We have decided in order to help the alien return to his home planet, the moon, we’d like to walk there after the success of walking to the North Pole. So we have set ourselves a space adventure! Walking like aliens we completed 40 miles today – 20 children, 2 miles each 😊 Our little legs were worn out. This lead into an exploration of how many miles we would need to walk to reach the moon. We used the internet to research and find the answer. A staggering 238,855 miles!!!!! We’ll wear our moon boots out!

Today’s HoWL heroes

Monday ✔

The children were very excited to be back in school today with lots of stories to share about their wonderful time in the snow 🌨⛄️❄️

We have worked hard today to apply our phonics skills in our writing. I was super impressed to see so many children working hard to recall sounds and write them independently.

Todays HoWL heroes were:

Working Hard – Teddy, Noah and Evelynn. I am so proud of how you all, always set a fantastic example to your peers. You always show ‘green standard’ when working on the carpet and demonstrate this effectively in crew.

Getting Smart – SJ. SJ absolutely blew my socks off today whilst writing. He independently wrote three sentences, including finger spaces and beautiful handwriting. He also re-read his work to make sure it made sense and he’d included all the sounds he could hear. Amazing work!

Being Kind – Skyla. Skyla is always so kind to her crew and is always looking to lend a helping hand. She is such a thoughtful and caring little girl.

Being Kind – Grace. Grace was so kind to her crew yesterday. When children were feeling a little upset, Grace was the first one there! She is so kind and considerate, such a credit to our crew.

Wednesday ✅

Today I have been blown away by the children’s independence and resilience. In maths we’ve been developing our number skills, looking at one more and one less. We explored this before Christmas and we’ve revisited this today with great success. The children completed their diagnostic three without any support from me 🙌🏼 I’m so proud of how well our FS children are going.

Todays HoWL heroes were:

Getting Smart – Teddy, Noah and Shelby for their excellent work in maths today. The children preserved even when it became a little tricky!

The alien invasion seems to have ceased and we have a tricky problem on our hands! The alien 👽 was scared by all the excitement last week and would like to return home, however his spaceship is beyond repair 😔 So he needs our crew to help! Today we brainstormed what we could do to help and how the alien may be feeling. We had a great discussion around feelings and how we can support the alien to make him feel safe in school 👽

The children then had a challenge, we needed to explain what the alien looked like and what had happened so that visitors to school knew who they were keeping an eye out for. The children used their phonic skills to write captions and short sentences independently. I was so proud ☺️

Todays HoWL heroes were:

Getting Smart – Summer used what she knew about ‘special friends’ to write some tricky words!

Working Hard – Zach wrote a fantastic caption ‘Orange alien’ today, independently, writing all the sounds he could hear.

Being Kind -Grace was ever so kind outside today and shared the wheeler toys perfectly ☺️
