Today I got to celebrate with all of our super Learning Legends. What a fantastic group of young people… 🤩
Week 5 completed in Crew Fox ✅.
We’ve got better this week at editing our writing and checking our content with a peers support. This is taking us a bit of time to get used to but we’re getting there! We are also working hard in our pairs across the different subjects. This is getting better as we are trying to focus more and work better with one another…
During maths, we’ve used Kahoot quizzes to time ourselves when answering questions. This is going to help us improve our pace! We are also getting quicker at our magic math sessions, working on our counting, place value and other arithmetic skills!
Today was our second session of Scotty’s Heroes. We are getting fitter physically and mentally after these sessions… it’s tough but we are loving it 😅
Our HOWL average was 2.2 (beating last weeks 2.1) which means we get to spin the wheel for a reward!!
Have a great weekend everyone,
Mrs Fox 🦊
This week has been another busy one for Crew Tucker and the children have continued to make us laugh with their jokes and witty comments and to make us proud with how keen they are to Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind.
In writing we have been continuing our Viking narratives, retelling the terror of the Viking raid in Lindisfarne. The children have worked hard to include a range of literary features – fronted adverbials (always followed by a comma!), conjunctions, similes and ambitious vocabulary (words that will make us say, “Wow!”).
In maths we have been learning how to add using the column method. It’s safe to say we found this a little tricky to begin with, but by using concrete resources and pictures to reinforce our understanding the children were able to persevere and make progress. We will be continuing to work on this next week as adding larger numbers is so important in Key Stage Two.
Our HOWLs this week have dropped a little, but this is not because we have not been trying hard; it is because we are getting better at being honest and critiquing ourselves. Yes, we want our HOWLs to be as high as possible, but only if these are a true reflection of how we are doing. This is so important if we are going to strive to be the best versions of ourselves.
Keep up the hard work Crew Tucker and have a great weekend!
It’s been another busy week in LKS2. We’ve worked really hard in Expedition, but the highlight this week has been our Maths. We’ve loved trying to beat Siri and gain better skills along the way! Check out our video below and have a happy weekend Crew LKS! 😆
It has been another fun week in after school club. Check out the video to see what we did in Music Club with Mr Hull!
This week we’ve really focussed on kindness and building a positive crew in our classroom. We’ve shared words of kindness with each other every morning, and we’ve worked on our communication skills. We had lots of fun working out how to pass a ball around the crew without using our hands to build up our teamwork skills at the beginning of the week, and then today, we have worked together to build our own obstacle course in COJO. We even challenged our communication skills by blindfolding two of our crew members so that we had to give clear, careful instructions so that they could pass the balls along the course.
it’s been a busy week in Crew SB as we have been preparing for the next take of plot points in writing. This has involved the children collecting lots of vocabulary to describe different aspects of the Harry Potter film. They are now prepared for the plot points next week. We’re excited to read their writing as it’s lovely to see their personality shine through
In Cojo, they have been working on their communication and observational skills. This was a very successful week for them as they worked collaboratively to complete the activity to the best of their ability. They supported each other and ensured used their communication skills effectively.
We have been developing our computing skills this week which has involved becoming more familiar with the Scratch programme. Working in pairs, they had to create their own background and spite in preparation for developing an algorithm to move the sprite.
Have a lovely weekend.
Yet again it has been another busy week.
In writing, we have been finishing our narrative about the raid in Lindisfarne. The children have worked hard to include fronted adverbial, conjunctions and similes 😀. We have been very lucky to share some of our lovely writing with the children in year 4.
In maths, we have been learning how to add 2d and 3d numbers using the column method. We are so proud of the children with the resilience to persevere when they have found this tricky.
Our crew average has improved as the week has gone on. Let’s hope we continue our positive attitude and listening skills next week.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend
Another week has been completed in Crew 4 😁 Week 5 has been an interesting week and I think that, if we are being honest, we are starting to feel quite tired now. Our HoWL averages have been slightly lower than what they normally are, as we have really tried to focus on working hard when we are feeling tired and our resilience is being challenged. It has been quite tricky at times, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t had some strong learning opportunities!
The Crew have been working on their Lindisfarne writing and have produced some really lovely similes, expanded noun phrases and tried to include a range of interesting fronted adverbial. In reading, we continue to build up our expression and fluency skills, so that we are getting smarter with our reading skills.
Maths has been the highlight this week, as we have rolled out our new maths. We’ve especially loved playing the game ‘beat Siri’, as we try to improve our arithmetic skills. We’ve also included our mild, hot and spicy challenges in order to build up our fluency. This really has felt successful and we are pleased with hour much everyone is enjoying their maths learning.
Expedition has been fun this week, as we have been continuing to link our writing to the Vikings. This is helping us answer our Guiding Question ‘Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now?’ There have been some fantastic pieces of art and we have really enjoyed looking at some beautiful work.
Next week is a fresh start Crew 4, so we wonder if we are able to listen carefully and much better? This will help us to get smarter, whilst also improving our HoWL averages. Have a lovely weekend guys! 😆
Crew Mcloughlin were yet again put through their paces in Scotty’s Heroes this week. Mark, our instructor, has encouraged us to not just stop when we feel a little out of breath but to keep going to help us with our fitness. We can even see a difference in ourselves from last week! Our session is motivating us in our learning too, to ensure we are resilient and take the energy and enthusiasm into what we our learning.
Here’s some pics of us in action…
