Practise, practise, practise! Crew Godley have been trying so hard to develop their handwriting skills, making sure our letters are formed from the correct point, sat on the line and have correct ascenders and descenders. It’s a lot to remember but we are stating to see some real improvements!
Year Two took a lovely scenic walk up to our local church at Owston to complete our first case study in Christianity. Along the way we ensured we were stewards of our local area and collected litter, we were praised by the public for our lovely manners and care to our community. When we arrived at the church we were excited to explore the grounds and noticed lots of old artefacts which dated back to 1086, Owston Church we discovered was also mentioned in the Doomsday Book. A fantastic piece of history, right on our doorstep!

Today we recapped the text we read yesterday, thinking about the health care in Egyptian times compared to now. We remembered some of the reasons why Egyptians visited a doctor and how the care of the rich compared to the poor. We are really enjoying our new text as it has lots of humour in it! Next we looked at some of the new vocabulary that would appear as we read. We discussed word class along with definitions of each word. We text marked this vocabulary when we started reading. When reading, we took part in an echo read where we tried hard to use an expressive voice along with better fluency. We tried to stay at a pace that was similar to Mrs McClare. We discussed some of the language as we read and offered our thoughts and opinions on parts of the text. Some of which made us laugh! Mrs McClare questioned us on different things as we read. We then took part in a partner read, again offering some critique to our partner. Mrs McClare then read part of the text, modelling fluency and expression. She tried hard to ensure her voice changed when bold words appeared in the text. We enjoyed our reasons to read where we used the text to support our answers. Our exit ticket was looking at statements comparing treatments from today to Egyptian times. A productive session today MI 🙂
After a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast we had our first challenge of the day – this is one the children were looking forward to and it did not disappoint. Needless to say we were cold and wet but we had big smiles on our faces!
Crew Hamill began their new maths unit yesterday, focusing on telling the time! To get us started, we did some practical work looking at o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We began by discussing what an analogue clock is and where we might see them in every day life. We then looked at the different hands and what each of them represented. Following this, we used our individual clocks to show different times. We began with o’clock times, understanding that the minute hand will always be on the 12. Then we looked at half past, with the minute hand being on the 6, half way around the clock. To end the lesson, we pushed ourselves to look at quarter past and quarter to.
For Tranquil Tuesday we began the day with some space yoga!
After checking into our rooms with great excitement we had our first activity – cratestack! The children thoroughly enjoyed it and we were super proud of them for going out of their comfort zones and all rose to the challenge!
