What a way to start 2022/2023!

Today I managed to get into most classes, with the exception of Y3/4 because they were on their Fieldwork Trip. I loved my visits to every classroom, where I saw children focussed and working hard to get smart. I saw children working as ‘Crew’ in EYFS, Pledge setting in Y1, Getting smart at Maths using Ipads in Y2 and then more Maths in UKS2! What a way to start our new term but also to finish our first week.

Happy Friday everyone, see you bright and early on Monday.

Punctuality

Punctuality Autumn Term

Welcome back to all of our Pupils and Parents. As we start a new academic year I just wanted to send a quick post out regarding punctuality. We will also be sharing one with some reminders about attendance too.

We have been really impressed with pupils’ punctuality this week, with the vast majority of pupils attending school on time. However, we just wanted to send out some reminders to ensure everyone is aware of our school expectations around punctuality, which we have also shared with the pupils.

●  Our school start time is 8.40/ pupils should be on school grounds from 8.35 ready to enter school at 8.40

●  We will ring a bell at 8.40 to signal that pupils should enter school at this time

●  We expect pupils to be in school no later than 8.45

●  Doors will close at 8.50 as this gives time for anyone who may be running late to still enter viatheir normal school door/ a bell will ring at 8.50 to say that doors should now be closed and anyone arrive after this will be classed as late

If you know that your child is going to be late for school, please may we ask that you bring your child into the school and complete a ‘Late Form’ for your child, explaining why they are late on this occasion. Late pupils should always be brought in by their adult, if your child arrives without an adult, we will ask for you to come in later that day/the following day to complete the late form.

We understand that mornings can be busy and on the odd occasion pupils may arrive after 8.50 but we do need to ensure that pupils are arriving at school on time the vast majority of the time.

Arriving late into the crew can be unsettling both for your child and others. It also takes time away from adults being with the children. Finally, it means that our Admin Staff are unable to complete the registration process in a timely manner as they are taking late pupils to classes to ensure their safety.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for your understanding around this matter.

Busy busy – Crew Shields

Today has been a super busy day as we’ve continued with hook week and slowly started to introduce each area of the curriculum. This has also involved a huge focus on our expectations for each subject area and how this will look for Crew Shields

The children have then spent the afternoon continuing with their research and making paper mache planets. This was a very messy job! The aim is to get this finished tomorrow and then we will paint next week.

National Space Centre – 31/9/22

What a great day we had exploring the National Space Centre (Leicester)! The children had the opportunity to see shuttles, rockets, space suits and even a real piece of the moon.

During the day, they were able to read lots of information which then allowed them to answer some multiple choice questions during the workshop. Afterwards, they explored the phases of the moon and then produced a turn wheel to help them remember each phase.

The children’s behaviour was exceptional and they really did themselves and school proud.

Afterschool Clubs

The after school clubs are now all on Parentpay. There are limited numbers available for each club. All clubs must be paid in full. Thank you.

Crew Welburn’s Fantastic First Day

Crew Welburn have had a fantastic first day back at school! We’ve learnt each others names, made shoe towers in crew building, explored our new classroom and provision areas, enjoyed a delicious lunch and sang lots of songs 🎶

Crew Nursery 2022!

We have had a brilliant first couple of days in crew nursery. The children have settled really well and have started to look at achieving 3.5 and 4 HOWLs daily. We have spoken about how to sit smart on the carpet and what this looks like. We have begun to explore the different areas and have really worked on our ”being kind” HOWL to share the resources and talk to our new friends.

We have today looked at ourselves and what makes each of us special. We have used a mirror to look closely at our faces and how we all have different features.

We have had a fantastic start to school life at Carcroft.

We Are Go For Launch!

It’s been a successful blast off for the Carcroft Cosmonauts as we journey to outer space (or Leicester). We expect to enter the National Space Centre’s atmosphere in just under an hour and can’t wait to view the stars from there! We’ll report back later. Out.

LKS2s first day back! 😃

LKS2 started their new academic year by completing a Crew circle. During that, we all shared lots of lovely, happy stories of our summer holidays: this included time playing in the pool and wonderful sounding holidays!

After this, we then went onto complete some maths and started by chanting our multiplications without any hesitation or signs that we had had a summer break. What impressed me even more was our knowledge of place value, which we will continue to explore in the coming weeks.

Once we had some fresh air to keep our brains fresh, we then went onto to look at images and illustrations from our new book. We had so many brilliant incites into the images and shared lots of clever inferences. I think we’ll be just fine when we get further into the book after todays showing!

During the afternoon, we started to explore the Hook Week part of our new Expedition. We’re trying to guess what our Guiding Question could be and I am interested to see what else we come up with throughout the rest of the week. We do, however, know that we are looking into the Second World War, which definitely perked up our interest as we looked at images from the War and relating to it. We worked collaboratively to come up with wonders and notices about these images. Ideas given were ’where could the children be going on the train?’ and ’that is a gas mask used in dangerous situations’. It was great to see such enthusiasm straight away!
