Book Talk – The Last Bear

In our book talk lessons this week, we have been text marking the next pages in our book “The Last Bear” by Hannah Gold. The children really enjoyed finding out what happened after April and her dad received the official government letter. The children picked out lots of words they didn’t understand and we were able to discuss reading around the word to figure it out. Some children had used their grammar knowledge and found words with capital letters. They remembered that words starting with capital letters are nouns so Oslo is a place.

Year 5 become Victorian children…

We really enjoyed becoming Victorian children where we experienced what is was like to attend school in Victorian times. We think Mrs Ibbotson and Mrs Boswell liked being the strict teachers quite a bit haha!! We learnt that if children did not attend school, then they had to work in the factories which we also had a go at this afternoon- this was hard work! After all of that, we then played a range of Victorian games the children would have played back then such as hop-scotch, giant snakes and ladders, Blind man’s bluff and pass the slipper.

Art in action 🎨

KS1 have been exploring the artist Steven Brown as part of our expedition. Today we carried out a gallery walk, looking at the work of Steven whilst adding our notices, praises and wonders. We all agreed the colours he used were so eye catching and really made his work stand out. We then collected ideas for our own artwork, looking at animals native to the UK. We had lots of fun practising applying our skills in the style of a Steven Brown.
