Because Y1 have worked so hard in our phonics screening tests, we got a great treat and got to go to the park! Miss Welburn also kindly brought us in some sweets.

Students at XP Gateshead are stepping up in a big way as Digital Leaders, diving into the world of technology to record content for their Expeditions. Teaming up with the XP Trust Comms Crew, these young tech enthusiasts are taking on the role of professional sound technicians. They’re not just learning the ropes of audio recording and editing – they’re skilfully mastering them, gaining hands-on experience that goes beyond the classroom and reaching into real-world applications.
It was so inspiring to see these students get stuck in and take charge of such an important project. Across our Trust, students are constantly proving that with enthusiasm and dedication, they can achieve anything. A massive appreciation to these Digital Leaders for going above and beyond!
A new curation of recent beautiful work has been installed in the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster City Centre! There’s awesome work from schools across our Trust, with a key focus on our Curriculum seam ‘Protecting our Planet’ – be sure to go and see the awesome work our students have created!
We’re looking for:

Today in expedition we started our experiment on finding out which liquid will evaporate the quickest.
We loved tasting chapattis and playing games with them.
We were fab at telling the time to the nearest hour!
So today, we were looking at prefixes. Where they found two words, they added them together to make a new word.
In our arithmetic session today, Crew Hamill have been focusing on one of our gaps in learning that we identified from last week’s arithmetic test. We looked at multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers and recapped how to do this using the column method. Some of us even moved on to 3 digit by 1 digit!
Today, Crew Hamill pushed their learning of time to the next level by focusing on the 5 minute intervals on an analogue clock. We practised our 5 times tables to ensure we were secure in counting in 5s and then repeated this up to 60 as there are 60 minutes in an hour. We focused on the blue hand being our minute hand and the red hand being our hour hand and used this to show different times using the 5 minute intervals.
Today, Crew Hamill learned how to take part in a patrol. We discussed that this was about walking together, with a shared mission, but keeping far enough apart to protect others in our patrol team and ensure we weren’t being followed. We then had to patrol through our outdoor area and hunt for objects that had been hidden around. This meant we had to use our observational skills and really concentrate on the patrol we were taking as some of them were extremely tricky to spot! A big shout out to Taylor for earning Scotty’s Hero for this week!
Today our crew challenge was the Leaning Tower of Feetza.
The children worked in small groups to build the tallest freestanding tower using only their shoes. It was lovely to see them all working together and supporting each other even if it was a little smelly afterwards!!
