Crew Wilson Weekly Review: 26.3.2021

What a bizarre and quiet week we have had in Crew Wilson! Whilst Crew Welburn have been isolating, we have been in school working very hard! We have completed maths assessments, independent writing and have even got a head start on our final product in expedition!

We have also enjoyed having extra space in the playground, have collaborated brilliantly on different activities and have made the most of the sunshine that we have had this week!

Howl Heroes:

The whole crew are our Howl Heroes today – they have worked so hard since returning for this term, and even with the challenges we have faced they have been so resilient and focussed on their learning.

The progress we have made across all of our subjects has been phenomenal, and when I look back at our first pieces of work from September I am blown away and so proud of how far we have come as a Crew!

Howl Average:

We have ended the week on a 3.4! This week we have had less reminders than usual for working hard, getting smart and being kind, so we are really growing together as a Crew and it is wonderful to see.

Crew Wilson have definitely earned their break from school over half term, so please keep safe, be kind to each other and get plenty of rest (I plan on sleeping for a week!)

See you all in two weeks!

It’s Easter in Crew today!

We have had a lovely day celebrating Easter 🐣 We had yummy hot cross buns for breakfast this morning, lots of children tried something new and loved it!

Then we went and rolled eggs! Despite getting getting bit soggy in the rain we had a great time! Make sure you watch This Week in the Phase to see how much fun we had!

Easter bunny popped up at the window and hid eggs outside so this afternoon we went on an Easter egg hunt!

Such a lovely day of Crew time and we have lots of lovely memories! The children have worked so hard this term and deserve a good rest so that they can continue to work hard, get smart and be kind next half term!

Todays HOWL hero is Thomas! He has had such a wonderful day and is showing how he is getting smart by starting to use full sentences when he speaks!

Crew Welburn’s Daily Blog 26.3.2021

We had a slightly sad morning crew session on Google Meet today in Crew Welburn…We had to say goodbye to two members of our crew 😔 Although we are really sad to see both Bronwyn and Nathan go, we know that they are going to be amazing in their new schools, and they are going to make so many new friends! Although we couldn’t do what we would normally do when we have to say goodbye to someone in our crew, we still wanted their last day to be special, so we put together some videos to help them think of all of the amazing memories they have made since September. Take a look at what we put together…🎬📽

Good luck Bronwyn and Nathan, we’ll really miss you both 🥰

Tomorrow we are celebrating Easter in our Crew so today we have been busy getting ready! We have made yummy chocolate crispy nests, decorated real eggs and finished our little chick’s! 🐣

Egg decorating was a great test of our fine motor skills, not only did we have to use our best pencil grip but we also had to draw on a round surface that wouldn’t stay still!

We worked as a Crew to make our crispy buns! Baking is such a good learning opportunity, without knowing it we were scientists talking about melting, mathematicians counting bits of chocolate and writers thinking about how we can describe the delicious, runny chocolate!

Today’s HOWL hero is Charlie-Jade. She was so kind during baking, passing the bowl to her partner to have a turn without even having to be asked! Such an amazing crew mate!

Crew Gerrard (25/3/21)

Thoughtful Thursday! We’ve had another day jam packed with assessments, in Crew Gerrard. We’ve been thinking carefully about our arithmetic and reasoning papers, in maths. We’ve also been continuing our persuasive letter in writing, which we are really working hard on. Today, our HoWL Heroes are:

Work Hard: Keegan for having such a fantastic attitude to his learning. You worked so hard in your writing and came up with fantastic ideas! 😁

Get Smart: Amelia for showing wanting to really improve in her writing and thinking carefully about how to do this! P.S. Thank you for the Easter egg 😃

Be Kind: McKenzie for helping your peers. You are such a team player and we’re lucky to have you in our Crew! 😄

Our HoWL average was 3.0 today and we have met our target. We pledged to pick up the pace in our writing tomorrow. 😆

Crew Marsh: 25/03/21

Star moment

Star moment today was completing and earning ourselves a certificate for learning through Manchester Children’s University all about teeth and eating healthy. It was great to see the children show everything that they have learnt so far. Well done! 👏👏

Average is: 3.6!

Our Weekly HoWL target is: 3.0

How can we develop this tomorrow?

Crew Marsh’s target for tomorrow is to make sure that they are putting their hands up if they need something, we are starting to get out of our seats again far too much.

Howl Hero:

Our Get Smart Hero today is Aaliyah!

Aaliyah has worked really hard all day and made sure that she is concentrating on her learning, well done Aaliyah, keep up the hard work! 👍😁

Hooray! Some lovely positive feedback after a bit of a rocky week…

You may remember that last half term, Ofsted completed their monitoring inspection of the school, albeit virtually and this week we have received the report.

It was a tiring couple of days with myself and Mrs Fox suffering with Covid-19 at the time but we are really pleased with what Ofsted has to say about our school since visiting last January.

In particular, I am thrilled that they could see the hard work that has gone into establishing RWI within our school to support our youngest pupils with their Early Reading and Phonics. All of our staff have worked incredibly hard to establish this but none of it would have happened without our amazing RWI Leader, Miss Welburn. Miss Welburn has done such a fabulous job training up our staff and ensuring that the children are being taught exactly what they need, in order to keep up or catch up quickly if they are not on track. Early Reading and Phonics has gone from being an area for improvement, to one of our strongest areas in school, I am confident that Early Reading will continue to go from strength to strength and we will ensure that every child leaves Y2 being able to read at a level appropriate for their age.

In addition, as a school we have worked tirelessly to ensure that as many pupils as possible had access to an education whatever their context during Lockdown 3 and due to technology issues, this meant that at Carcroft, we had a large proportion of pupils onsite. Again, I am pleased that Ofsted recognised this and feel extremely proud of our staff team, whereby every member of staff worked onsite throughout Lockdown 3 providing an onsite education to 75% of the pupils whilst ensuring that the 25% of pupils learning remotely also received an education which was of a high standard. The staff at Carcroft really are an asset to the school and I am so pleased that Oftsed recognised this too.

Finally, we have also really focussed in on further improving our culture for learning this year through the launch of Crew, HoWLs and Expedition, none of which would have been possible without the support of the XP Trust. Our school culture really has been transformed as a result of some of these practises and again Ofsted recognised this.

Carcroft primary school has unfortunately not been rated as a ‘Good’ school since 2008. In 2012 the school was judged as ‘Satisfactory’ the now ‘Requires Improvement’ and since then, the school has found it extremely difficult to get back to being an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ school.

I joined Carcroft in 2015 as a Deputy Headteacher and knew that as a team we had some work to do to get the school to where it needed to be. However, after spending a year as Deputy, I knew that I wanted to make a difference to the education being provided for the pupils of Carcroft as I did not feel that it was good enough and after Ms Willis’ departure in 2016, decided to step in as Acting Headteacher. 4 and a half years on, after becoming the substantive Headteacher of CPS, I continually strive to make a difference to our community. The last 4 and a half years have been a real learning curve for me after facing some significant challenges around inclusion and behaviour, in order to then be able to provide a high quality learning experience for our pupils. However, we really have turned a corner with this and I truly believe that our school has improved considerably in the last 12 months and is well and truly on the road to being ‘Good’ or better.

Our children deserve the very best education and I really do feel that every term the education in which we are providing for our pupils is going from strength to strength, despite the pressures of a global pandemic. We strive to be the best version of ourselves every day and I want to thank everyone who has been involved in this journey over time.

Although we are not yet judged to be Ofsted Good, I walk around our school and know that we are striving to be there and feel that our pupils are getting a really good deal with us at CPS but we will ensure that this standard does not slip and it’s our mission to just get better each and every day. We don’t know when our full inspection will take place due to the pandemic and also with us converting to an academy within the next two months, but when we do, we will be ready to showcase the amazing work of our pupils and school.

I know that this last year has not been easy for parents and I understand that bubble closures have had implications on families in the last week, so I would like to thank you again for supporting us as a school and would like to show my appreciation for all in which you are doing.

I am extremely proud of everything in which we have achieved over the last few years and look forward to continuing this journey with you after the Easter break.

Headteacher

Work hard Wednesday!

Such a lovely day of working hard today! We have been focusing on our maths today! The children showed us just how smart they have been getting by completing their maths assessments. We have some fantastic mathematical minds in our crew and I can’t wait to see what the children can achieve next term!

We have also been exploring maths in our environment. It’s so much fun finding numbers and we are even starting to match the numeral with a representation!

Today’s HOWL hero is Rose 🌹She was such an amazing example of green standard in our line today! 👏🏻

Lots of children must have been watching Rose because we upped our standard and today was some of the smartest lining up and walking through the corridor we have done! Well done Crew, what a great way to show kindness to the other Crew’s in school!
