Monday ✅

Another fantastic day full of craziness, collaboration and Crew! See our achievements below and test your children tonight to see what they remember!

Highlights from today:

Maths: Continuing with our counting to 10, the children explored writing the numerals and counting ‘one more’.

Computing: After last weeks taster lesson, the Crew really took on board directional language (forwards, backwards, left right) and remembered the top tips for programming the Beebot. They had great fun sending it to their friends in the group, although there were couple of detours along the way. The independent activities on the laptops were a hit too! (once the children realised they weren’t touch screen!).

Howl Heroes:

Working Hard: This Howl goes to Tia for being motivated and working hard to meet the Green Standard in all of our lessons today – Gold is good but Green is the best! Keep up the great work Tia!

Getting Smart: This Howl goes to Stevie for showing her listening skills are improving day by day! Stevie is getting so much better at following instructions and always tries to produce beautiful work, well done Stevie!

Being Kind: This Howl goes to Aleks today, for being so kind to his friends in group activities, helping others when they are stuck and for showing our Crew what Green Standard looks like on the carpet (ask the kids, they definitely know what it means!). Keep up the good work Aleks!

Howl Average: 3.5

Crew Gerrard blog (21/09/2020)

Hi everyone!

Today, in Crew Gerrard, we have made a solid start to the week. During our Crew time, we discussed how we could really work hard as a group and individually, even making a class pledge. Then we moved onto rounding in maths, which we are continuing to build our confidence in.

After break, Crew Gerrard came in and started their first few sentences of their third paragraph in writing. We’re really looking forward to seeing how these continue to develop over the coming days. We then continued to read our text, The Giver.

Once lunch was over and the children had regained some of their energy from a busy morning, the our Crew worked in groups and compared the map of Carcroft to maps across the world. Each group looked into a city and looked at what similarities and differences these places had. Some of the cities were Las Vegas and Tokyo. (see the images below).

We then celebrated the day and decided on our HoWL scores, which came to an average of 2.9.

Our HoWL heroes were:

  • Ellie-May for working hard, something that we know she will do everyday. Not just in her work, but helping out myself and Ms Penfold, too. Well done!
  • Emily for trying to get smart all day. I thought she would explode like a firework during our maths lesson, in particular – keep it up!
  • Sapphire for being kind. Sapphire always makes sure that others are okay and that they are feeling better. This is fantastic to see.

Let’s make tomorrow even better and remember to work hard!

Mr G 😆

Daily Blog 21.09.20

Happy Monday! ☀

Today the sun has been shining in and outside of the classroom! It has been a glorious day!☀

Star moment of the day:

Today I was super impressed with how hard children worked in our ‘expedition’ lesson. The children had the task of deciding what they thought ‘community’ meant. To support children they were given some statements which they had to read and then decide whether they thought that was ‘a community’ or ‘not a community’. The children worked really well as ‘mini crews’ and were so inclusive with the responses that they gave. Making me feel really proud to be part of the ‘Carcroft Community’.

Once we established what we thought a community was the children then created their own ‘Community Circles’ to show the different communities that they belonged to. Below are a few snaps but please ‘be kind’ as these are working progress…

Another ‘star moment’ of the day was being able to share some birthday highlights with the children during Crew time. The children enjoyed looking at my pictures and I felt that it has really helped us to build a strong crew.

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.1

This is a great class average Crew Elmer (especially as we are missing two of our crew members today!) so well done! 👏

This week’s HoWL target is: 2.9

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Tomorrow Crew Elmer need to make sure that we are continuing to be kind to each other and that we are consistently ‘working hard’ in all parts of the lesson.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Harry for ‘working hard’ all day. Harry is always focused on his learning and tries his best. He has shown a positive attitude to all of his learning today especially in Maths where he enjoyed partitioning numbers and in expedition where he created a fantastic ‘community circle’. Well done Harry!  👏

Daily Blog – 21/9/20

Hi all,

Star moment of the day:

Today in PSHE, the children had to make a carrot car using a range of materials. The focus was how they worked as a crew to create a car that moved. The key skills we were looking for was communication, listening and collaborating their ideas. It was lovely to see the children working together and sharing their thoughts on how to improve their car.

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.0

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Tomorrow Crew Shields need to continue working on their pace and ensuring that they are starting learning without being prompted by staff.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

This week we are concentrating on working hard because if you work hard, you get smart!

Our work hard hero today is: IJ!!

IJ has been working hard to ensure that he is listening to all instructions so he is able to complete his learning. He has has been listening carefully in phonics and he is becoming more independent with blending his words. IJ has attempted all learning and is eager to try and answer questions.

Daily blog: 21/09/20

Hi all,

Star moment of the day:

I thoroughly enjoyed our writing lesson today, the children have started planning their own writing using what we have just been writing about: moving house. Everyone was super at this! They all drew what they could notice, hear and imagine, and then they wrote some adjectives and adverbs down to help them when it comes to writing their independent piece.

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.1!

Weekly HoWl target: 3.0

How can we improve this tomorrow?

In the afternoon, Crew Marsh need to make sure that they are listening to instructions and working hard.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

This week we are concentrating on working hard, as if you work hard, you get smart!

Our work hard hero today is: Aaliyah!

Aaliyah has worked so hard all day and has had a positive attitude in every lesson.

Well done Aaliyah!

Crew Welburn Daily Blog: 21.09.20

Hi all,

What a busy day we’ve had! We’ve been working tremendously hard in math’s today. We have been adding one more to a given number. We used ten squares, monkey ladders and even dice to support our learning. We then used our “one more” knowledge to create our own number line. This was great fun!

Our HOWL Heroes for the day are:

Work Hard: Tiarna, for supporting the teacher and having a positive attitude to all her tasks undertaken.

Get Smart: Mariama, for listening carefully to instructions and trying hard to implement her new learning through her Independent tasks.

Be Kind: Kairen, for treating other crew members with respect and supporting them when they were feeling blue.

Well done HOWL Heroes!

Our average today was 3.4 a lovely day. Keep up the good work.

Crew Kent Blog 21.9.20

Well done today Crew Kent!! You worked extremely hard this morning in math’s on the tricky topic which is rounding. Ensuring that you are confident in rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000’s. Next you battled through some new spelling words sounding them out and trying to see the pattern in them. After break you worked solid right yup until lunch developing ideas for the next chunk of writing trying to make sure to include dialogue in you work with the use of speech marks. In the afternoon you had fun comparing and contrasting maps of different cities around the world and how they compare to Carcroft. Check out the organised chaos below. Linking different maps and stating the differences and similarities.

Finally we had some good honest conversations about working hard and how we are going to improve our focus and effort especially during the input part of the lesson.

Howl Heroes – Working Hard = Roxanne, Get Smart = Abigail and Being Kind = Deacon

Hi everyone!

A massive well done to all the children in Crew Thiede this week, they have worked so hard.

This week Crew Thiede had a really successful COJO challenge! They used everything they have talked about in crew time to work together and strengthen their crew bond! 👏🏻

HOWLs
Our CREW average for the day was 3.6 which is our highest score yet! ⬆️

Next week we want to improve even more! To do this the Crew Thiede need to think about how we work hard and be kind during break and lunchtime.

🌟Isaac – For working really hard when writing his recount of the walk Coffee Corner
Get Smart
🌟Charlie E – For creating a beautiful sentence that he is proud of.

Wow! What another wonderful week at school. It is fabulous to see all the children settling into year 2.

Highlight of the day:

In science, the children have blown me away with their knowledge of the life of a human. The children showed such enthusiasm to share their thoughts, it was wonderful to see. They loved to tell me about babies in their families and how they love to sleep, crawl and play with toys.

Learning Legend

Where to start with our learning legend this week. Hollie is an absolute star who strives to achieve and challenges herself in every lesson.

Weekly overview

Every morning, we enjoy our Crew time together. It is lovely to hear how many children enjoy coming to school to learn, see their friends and even me. It brightens up my day….every day! In English, the children have been writing a wonderful recount of their journey to Coffee Corner. In maths, we have continued to learn about place value and how to partition numbers up to 100. Crew Flaherty have also impressed us when they counted in tens backwards and forwards to 100. We were Crew and no one was left behind. This week we have been focusing on one of our HOWLS work hard and the children have been demonstrating this in their lessons. I wonder if next week, Crew Flaherty can make sure they are focused at all times when an adult is talking. I know we can do it!

What an amazing week it has been, I look forward to seeing you all on Monday  and I wonder what next week will bring?

Daily post 18.09.20

Yay! It’s the WEEKEND! 😁 Other exciting news… It’s Mrs Elmer’s Birthday tomorrow! 🎈

We had a tricky start to our learning in Crew Elmer this morning but that didn’t stop us all from having a Fantastic Friday! 🤩

Star moment of the day:

Today I was incredibly impressed with children’s knowledge of solids, liquids and gases, as well as how quickly they all grasped our new scientific vocabulary: ‘particles’, ‘vibrate’ and ‘collide’. Children were also able to list the properties of the three different states as well as list some examples of each. Many children also deepened their learning by writing some ‘I wonder’ questions to enable them to achieve ‘Green Standard’. Take a sneak peek below:

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.4

Today our Crew average is back up there! 🙌 I believe that this is down to so many children being engaged in their learning today. Both in Science and Maths lots of children were ‘working hard’ and as a result achieved ‘Green Standard, showing just how ‘smart’ they are. Children have also been working on being ‘kind’ to each other today. Well done Crew Elmer! More of this next week please! 👍

This week’s HoWL target is: 3.3

How can we improve this next week?

Next week, Crew Elmer need to continue to ‘work hard’, ‘get smart’ and ‘be kind’. I would especially like to see EVERYONE in Crew Elmer working hard – no fiddling with rulers, pencils etc. when someone is talking and making sure that they are focused at all times!

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Laila for HoWL Hero today for ‘getting smart’. Laila was nominated by several children in Crew Elmer as well and Mrs Elmer and Miss Hart. This lovely young lady always gets on quietly with her work and as a result achieved ‘Green Standard’ in both her Science and Maths work today. Well done Laila! You may be quiet but we’ve all noticed you ‘getting smart’!

Learning legend:

Where do I even begin with our ‘Learning Legend’ for last week?! When I joined Carcroft I was told lots of stories about this child. Despite this, being new to the school everyone joined my crew and was given a fresh start. From the onset this boy greeted me with smiles, used his manners to speak to me, joined in in class by putting his hand up, completed every task I asked of him to expected standard if not ‘Green Standard’, and has been kind to us all. The start that he has had in Year 4 has blown everyone in school away! Both academically and behaviour wise this boy has been fantastic! His has produced some high quality work including his art work in expedition which impressed the whole class and was nominated for display! He has also been following HoWLS well and achieving 3’s and 4’s most days. Last of all, his behaviour on our micro adventure was exceptional and his knowledge of the area kept us all interested! We are all incredibly proud of you Harley! Keep up the great behaviour and your enthusiasm to learn! 🥇🏆

Weekly overview:

The children have really settled well into Crew Elmer and I love doing Crew every morning and hearing how many of the children are in the ‘Green Zone’ because they love coming to school and being in this crew. It is heart warming to hear 💕 and makes coming to school to teach you all even more enjoyable! We have done lots of learning in Year 4 including partitioning, rounding and writing numbers in Maths, drawing particles in Science, planning our own stories in The Write Stuff, learning about our local area in Expedition and developing our language knowledge through listening to our class book, ‘The boy at the back of the class’. A great week Crew Elmer! I wonder what next week will bring?!

Crew Attendance:

Our latest attendance was  90%. This means that we are working towards the minimum expected standard (97%) this week!
