Help us to stay safe! HANDS - FACE - SPACE

Crew Boswell – 20.11.20

This has been our best week yet!  We’ve learned more about writing our own newspaper reports as well as looking at the origins of The Salvation Army and how one man’s beliefs led him to founding the charity.  We’re continuing to explore movement in PE and have started to develop our own counter-balances with a view to including them as part of a sequence.

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.2

Our Weekly HoWL average is: 3.3

Our Weekly HoWL target is: 3.1

I wonder if…

I wonder if we can focus on developing our resilience and perseverance on Monday by working through any challenges that we might face with our learning.  If we find it easy, then we’re not learning anything new!

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Our Work Hard HoWL hero today is Ethan!

It’s been a great day for Ethan today.  Offering to help others, smiles and a great focus on his work has been noticed by all of us.  It has been great to see him working hard and can see that he’s getting smart because of it!

Learning Legend:

Ryan!

Ryan, you’ve had a great week!  It has been wonderful seeing your confidence improve and even better to see that you’re pushing yourself to contribute in every session.  You’re fast becoming our expert for remembering previous learning and key facts!  Keep building on this and keep believing in yourself, we all know you can do it!

What is the most valuable gift we can give?

Crew Wilson Weekly Review: 20/11/2020

We have had a whirlwind of a week in Crew Wilson!

Highlight of the week:

This week we have been continuing on with our expeditionary learning, exploring how religious stories influence celebrations with a focus on Diwali. We are confident re-telling the story of Rama and Sita and can explain why candles are an important part of Hinduism. We have now started the next phase of our expedition: planning a product! The children are so excited to apply their learning to what they are going to make, watch this space for their fabulous creations!

We have being learning about instructions in computing, and had to programme a ‘Sandwich-Bot’ to make a Jam Sandwich. The Crew really enjoyed this and were dying to try it out themselves – maybe they could help make a sandwich over the weekend to practice their instruction skills?

I want to also give a big shout-out to the seven children who have earned their chocolate bar by reading at home four times this week, keep up the great work guys and hopefully we’ll have more children enjoying a reward next week!

Howl Heroes:

Work Hard : This Howl goes to Tommy T today for having a brilliant attitude towards his learning and showing his teachers how hard he can work when he concentrates, well done Tommy!

Get Smart: This Howl goes to Bobby-J today for also having a great attitude towards learning and consistently contributing to group discussions, great work Bobby-J!

Be Kind: This Howl goes to Daisy today for helping out her Crew without being asked by an adult. Daisy has shown great compassion for her friends who were stuck on tricky questions today, well done Daisy!

Howl Average:

We have ended the week on a Howl average of 3.45 (very specific, i know!). We have had a good week as a Crew but some people need to show their teachers the ‘green standard’ expectations with less reminders throughout the day to earn those higher howl scores.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Crew Longley – 20.11.2020

This week the children have been learning about William Booth and the The Salvation Army as part of our expedition ‘What’s the most valuable gift you can give?’ We have been looking at research about his life and creating posters about the work of the Salvation Army. Miss Shelly has once again been blown away by the creativity shown in dance lessons. I know the children have really loved this session. In computing, we have been working hard to find and correct bugs within algorithms. However, I have been blown away the most by some of the vocabulary that is now starting to be seen in the writing sessions. We really do have some budding authors!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.0 👍

Our Weekly HoWL target was: 2.8

How can we develop this next week?

Next week, I would like to see the children continue to learn their multiplication facts. This will really help them to get smart in lessons.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Our Be Smart hero today is Sophia!

I have been amazed with Sophia’s maths work this week. I am sure she will be at home telling everyone about how hard she has worked and just how smart she has been in this lesson.

Learning Legend: Kaitlynn.

Kaitlynn has been a but of a dark horse with her learning this year. She has grown in confidence across all subjects and her presentation sets the tone for others in the class.
I have really loved seeing her working hard with a partner to reach her eureka moment and go for gold. I am especially of the effort Kaitlynn has shown to get smart in maths. Well done!

Home Learning:

This week 10/16 children have achieved the target of reading 4 times (with a signature) and completing the homework tasks. These children had their lucky dip treat today. Well done!

It would be fantastic if we could get to the point where we head every child receiving a lucky dip treat!

99 Club:

I would like to say well done to the following children, who have achieved the next level of the 99 club challenge:

22 Club – Lydia B, Lydia S, Shiloh and Kayden

33 Club – Chase.

Crew Elmer Daily Blog 20.11.20

Happy FriYAY! 🤩

I don’t know whether it is because I’ve been working from home or because of the Training Day yesterday or because of the long repetitive days but I feel like Friday has been a long time coming for me! 💤 Crew Elmer you have done an amazing job with Miss Clarke and Miss Thompson this week, the way you adapt to change never surprises me! You have been so sensible, hardworking and kind this week. Thank you 😊 and well done! 👍 6 days and I will be back! Yay! 😬

Star moment of the day: ⭐

Today’s ‘Star moment of the day’ was the Expedition lesson that I led online today. From the first task the children were engaged and really enjoyed the learning taking place. I was really impressed with how inquisitive they were and how much knowledge they gained about The Salvation Army. The children also produced some fantastic posters! Watch this space because when I am back I will be taking some snaps and adding them to our Expedition WW and this webpage!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.4

Well done Crew Elmer! Another great HoWL average! I am so impressed that despite my absence that you are able to continue to work hard, get smart and be kind! 👏🙌👍🤩

This week’s HoWL target is: 3.3

How can we improve this?

Next week Crew Elmer just need to continue to be as fab as they have been this week! 👍 I do wonder though if next week we can have more children reading 4x a week and completing their homework. The results today were a little disappointing 😕

Today’s HoWL Hero: 🙌

Today Miss Clarke and I met after school to discuss the HoWL Hero for today as we were short of time before lunch today, and we choose…… Hannah-May! This was a joint decision as I said how hard Hannah had worked in Hooked on Books today. She had her hand up constantly and shared some really good answers. She also tried incredibly hard to include the sentence starters, bonus words and quotes. In addition to this Hannah also produced a fantastic poster about The Salvation Army in Expedition. It was bright, colorful, eye-catching and very informative! Excellent Hannah! Well done! 👍🤩🙌👏📚📝📒✏

Learning legend: 🤩
This week our Learning Legend was Esme! Esme has really gone above and beyond this week. Not only in class to ensure that she achieves ‘Green Standard’ in every lesson and gets ‘4’s for all of her HoWLs, but also out of school. Esme has written a newspaper article as part of The Write Stuff, has written out all of her timetables to help her to improve her MTC score and on top of all that she has visited a memorial for those that died at Bentley Colliery Pit as part of our Expedition work. I have been so impressed by this young lady this week. If she keeps this up this year she is sure to smash her ME targets and go far! Excellent work Esme! Crew Elmer are very proud of you! Well done!

Weekly overview:

See below our exciting phase video to sum this week up! 👇

Homework:

Just a reminder that homework will be going out every Monday! If you read 4x next week and complete all of your homework you will receive a prize from the lucky dip box! 🎁

Have a good weekend Crew Elmer! 🖐

Crew Shields – 20/11/20

It has been a fantastic week in Crew Shields, probably one of the best since September. The children have been working really hard in all areas of their learning and this reflected in our daily Howls scores. We started the week off with learning about William Booth and how he founded The Salvation Army. This lead on to an afternoon of PE where we listened to different styles of music and explored how we would move to that style of music. The children are really starting to flourish and I love seeing those light bulb moments. I am so proud of what they have achieved so far this year and I know they will keep shining as we continue through the year.

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.0

Our Weekly HoWL target is: 3.0

How can we develop this Next week?

Next week, Crew Shields need to ensure that they don’t fidget/fiddle with equipment when they should be actively listening.

Today’s Work Hard HoWL Hero:

Our Be kind hero today is: Ruby

Ruby’s independence has grown massively over the last few weeks. She needs less reminders to start her learning and I can tell she is trying to give 100% all of the time. Keep it up Ruby.

Crew Marsh: 20/11/20

Today the children have created posters for The Salvation Army, I have loved looking at them and deciding how the community can help in these testing times. Ask the children to see if they can remember what the Salvation Army does for less fortunate people? 👏💕😊

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.7

Our Weekly HoWL target is: 3.7

How can we develop this tomorrow?

Next week, Crew Marsh, need to make sure that they are listening and following every little instruction given to them.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Our Be Smart hero today is Aaron!

Aaron has made sure he has listened and followed every instruction today 😁✔

Learning Legend: Sophia

Crew Gerrard (20/11/20)

Today, we could’ve given anyone HOWL hero… but the lucky 3 were:

Work hard: Alicia 🦸‍♂️

Get smart: Riley 🦸‍♂️

Be kind: Lucas 🦸‍♂️

Learning Legend: Riley 👌

Golden Ticket: Alicia 🎟

We are super proud to say that our HOWL average today was a whopping 3.5! You have been absolutely phenomenal today Crew Gerrard and I especially loved how hard you worked on what you would make a stand for. It was really pleasing to see you all discussing what matters in this world.

Well done Crew Gerrard and make sure that you have a well deserved rest! 😆

Crew Fox blog 20.11.20

Happy Friday!

Crew Fox have managed to beat last weeks HOWL average which means a spin on the wheel for us!

We’ve began our new science topic of evolution and inheritance this week and have thought about what characteristics we’ve inherited from our parents.

Our expedition ‘when is it right to make a stand for what we believe in?’ has enabled us to have some great discussions and debates about our personal opinions.

Head over to our expedition page to see what we’ve been up to!

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Reflection

I have had the opportunity to read with some of our children this morning to see how well they are doing with their reading books. I was absolutely blown away with how confident some of the children have become with their reading! Their Fred talk and blending has improved so much an I can tell that they have practiced at home! We’ve had 12 children read 4 times this week which is fantastic Crew Welburn!

Our HOWL Heroes:

Work Hard: Lylah 🙌

Get Smart: Bronwyn🙌

Be Kind: Harry 🙌

This week’s highlights:

It is really hard to pick a highlight from this week as the children have been amazing in every lesson! Our science lesson really sticks out for me this week though. The children have been exploring the seasons and the weather and how it changes throughout the year. We’ve had some amazing vocabulary used in these lessons including Bronwyn’s use of  weather forecast to describe what a meteorologist was showing us. It is hard to believe that these children are only 5 and 6 when they come out with such fantastic vocabulary!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.2

This weeks HoWL average is: 3.3

Weekly HoWL target: 3

✨ Well done Crew Welburn! You have been superstars this week! 🌟
