We’ve had a lovely morning in Crew Shields as we explored a new artist and became familiar with the critique norms.
We looked at pieces of art and started to think about praises and wonders for each piece. We also considered the pieces that we liked and the ones we weren’t so keen on. There was a discussion about how people like different styles of art but this is down to personal preferences.
Our new artist is Waltraud Nawratil so we spent some time building up some background knowledge on the artist we’ll be staying out art after.
Then, we recapped some sketching techniques and watched a video on acrylic paint techniques. Crew Shields are excited to get cracking on their first draft tomorrow.
Crew Dorman had our Celebration of Learning this morning!
It all started in September, with the Expedition – ‘Exploring our World’ our guiding question was ‘What do stories tell us about Autumn?’
All term we have been exploring our nursery indoors and out, reading stories and getting used to all of our play areas and daily routines.
In Case study 1 our focus story was ‘Owl babies’ and we learnt about our family and other families like ours.
In Case study 2 we looked at non fiction books on ‘Diwali’ and ‘Bonfire night’ and learnt the rhyme ‘5 Little firemen’ with actions!
Finally, in Case study 3 our focus story was ‘Percy the Park Keeper – After the Storm’. We used what we had found out about our environment and forests in our stories, to look closely at the animals and plants in Percy’s park. We were incredibly creative throughout all of our expedition. We made lots of artwork, building up our art skills and confidence, to be creative with lots of different materials inside and outside!
During our celebration of learning, we showcased our ownership of our learning environment, by showing our parents where we like to play. We showed off our crafting and printing skills making ‘Clay hedgehogs, ‘Leaf man’ pictures and Autumnal handprints! We also talked about our favourite stories R said to Mrs Dorman “I like the Leaf man story!” and N said “I like the Percy book!”
Thank you to everyone who has made our expedition so magical and a big thank you to everyone today for celebrating all of our wonderful learning! What a fantastic day! Well done Crew Dorman!
Why don’t you practice the rhyme ‘5 Little leaves’ at home or take a look at one of our favourite stories ‘Leaf Man’.
KS1 really enjoyed their festive Christmas lunch with their Christmas jumpers on 🎄
This week in our citizenship crew we discussed what a community is and what it means to belong to one. We thought about our school community, who is part of it and how each person contributes. We thought about the term ‘community spirit’ and what it means to us. We then worked in mini crews to explore some images of a community. We thought about what is happening in each picture, how the people are contributing to the community and how the people are showing ‘community spirit’. In our debrief we thought about how we all could positively contribute to our communities and we made our own pledges. A great session crew MI 🙂
In Crew Haddock today they have done a Roman Mosaic for expedition
Today in maths we looked at making amounts in different ways.
We started by working in small groups and using the concrete resources to make different amounts. Once we were confident we worked independently to evidence what we had learnt.
Great work CrewRobson!
We have made a start on our final product artwork that will sit alongside our monologue in our very own frames. In our first lesson, we lightly sketched an outline to then tomorrow make our spider monkey come alive with a pop of abstract colour using oil pastels. Watch out on the blog for our finished pieces!
Step by step we followed miss’ individual pencil markings – we think we were pretty successful, don’t you? Shout out to Kaylum for being Miss’ art expert and practising his artwork at home prior to the lesson – he did a great job of helping everyone and his art piece was definitely better than miss’!
KS1 performed beautifully to their grown ups this afternoon, celebrating their expedition and explaining how we were heroes in our own community. The children articulated their learning journey with such confidence and pride. To bring our expedition to a close we shared with our grown ups that we raised an incredible £306 to purchase gifts to share with Hallam FM Christmas Mission, these have been wrapped by the children and will be delivered over the coming weeks. We are so proud of our children and would like to thank all of our parents for their support this term.
Today we continued to read The Smartest Giant in Town. The next character George meets is a family of mice whose house has burned down. For our experience lesson we made mice. They were very cute!
