In our expedition lesson, we were musicians and practiced sing the song “What a wonderful world”. We had to make sure we were singing in tune but we did find that keeping to the tempo and beat of the music tricky in some parts.

Citizenship crew
This week we unpicked what habits we have. We decided whether these were good habits or bad habits and then looked at how we could improve these habits! We have some great habits such as reading to calm down, going swimming each week and listening to music but we definitely need to improve some bad habits like picking our finger nails.

We are artists!
We have been super busy in Crew Thompson with our Easter art. We first started by looking at our artist “Jessa Dupuis”. We looked at a range of her work and discussed what we praised, noticed and wondered. We then did our first draft in our sketchbooks using our cutting skills and layering skills and creating a backwash.

We then practiced cutting out flowers and leaves as when we peer critiqued each others work, we noticed that this was something we needed more practice on.
Scottys
In our Scottys session this week, we put all of our skills into practice. We had to work as part of a mini crew to complete a number of exercises and reach the other side. We had lots of fun and Mick definitely put our strength and endurance to the test!

We are inventors!
In our computing session, we became inventors and designed our own invention. We had to use all our previous knowledge to make sure our invention had inputs and outputs. We came up with some fantastic inventions!

Complete Collage
Crew Hamill are extremely proud of their final collage piece! We used blue powder paint to sponge paint a background and then developed our cutting skills further from our drafting session. We critiqued our draft pieces and realised that we needed to focus on the size of the pieces we were cutting and we needed to be more accurate with the shape of the flowers we were cutting. We’re very happy with our final spring designs.

Art Slice Drafting!
Before completing our final art slice product, Crew Hamill developed their collage skills further by creating a draft of our final product. We concentrated on our cutting skills, ensuring we were accurately cutting the shapes we needed to create our vase, the leaves and our flowers. We then used the collage skills from our previous lesson to layer our shapes together to create a vase full of beautiful flowers.

Rhythmic Musicians
Crew Hamill became marvellous musicians this week! We recapped our musical vocabulary by completing a definition hunt around the classroom. Once we were sure we understood the terms such as beat, tempo and rhythm, we created our own rhythms using graphic notations. We used frog, tadpole, caterpillar and butterfly, clapping out the syllables to create a rhythm. We worked in mini crews to clap out a given rhythm and everyone had to guess what graphic notations we had been given. Following this, we matched the graphic notations to standard notation symbols. We found this a little tricky but we got there in the end!

Colourful Collage
Crew Hamill continued their art slice by focusing on the skills needed to be able to complete their own collage. We focused on selecting different sections of colour within our magazines and then cut these coloured sections into small squares and rectangles. We then collaged these together and filled out squares. We cannot wait to use this technique on our final product!
