Crew Hamill and Crew Thompson – Music 🎶💃🏻🕺🏻

We have been continuing with our music unit ‘Latin Dance’. We warmed up by practising the salsa step we looked at during our last lesson, we then learnt a new step and practised dancing both of them together.

We looked at keeping the beat of our song using untuned percussion instruments. We talked about, and then applied, crotchets and quavers using the instruments. Once we were confident with keeping the beat, we then added vocals and began to sing the song whilst playing.

We were introduced to chords, when you play two or more notes at the same time. Working with a partner, we tried playing the chords for A minor and F major on the glockenspiels. We found it tricky at first to play the correct notes at the same time as our partner, but we showed resilience and continued to practise keeping in time with one another. We then split into two groups, one playing A minor, the other playing F major at the same time. We thought it sounded really good when we all fell into the same time. We finished off this part of the lesson by continuing to learn the song lyrics, thinking about the melody and where we needed to clap.

Finally, we recapped the notes B, A and G on the recorder, and applied this to a short tune where we had to move between the 3 notes seamlessly.

World Book Day 2024! 🌍📚📖

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Thursday 7th March 2024 we will be celebrating the annual reading event, World Book Day at Carcroft Primary School. As Storytelling Week was such a success back in the beginning of Spring Term we are excited to say that we will be taking part in this special day to continue to celebrate the love of books and reading!

During the school day each crew will participate in a range of engaging activities, including sharing their favourite books, recreating book front covers, performing stories through drama and lots more exciting tasks! We hope that these will support our drive to maintain, promote and engage our children’s interest in reading. Each Crew Leader will create a blog at the end of the day so that you can all see the exciting things that your child/ren have been getting up to throughout the day!

As part of this exciting day we are asking for the children (and staff!) to come to school dressed as their favourite book characters. As always each child will receive a World Book Day £1 token to be redeemed at a retailer of your choice.

Either at the end of this day or in preparation for the day it would be lovely for you to discuss with your child/ren the different characters from their favourite books and find out what type of books they love to read, as well as participating in some shared reading either using their school book or another book that they have at home.

We look forward to seeing your child/ren dressed up for this special celebration!

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Crew MW – Music 🎶🥁

Today we listened to a story called ‘Hippobottymus’ that introduced us to a number of animals who make different noises to create music. We talked about how we could represent some of the animals using the untuned percussion instruments. Working in small groups, we decided who was going to be each animal before carefully choosing an instrument from the box that best represented that animal. We then performed together as each animal before then creating a soundscape that added a new animal each time, building up to a whole class performance, showcasing all the animals from the story!

Crew MW – PE

We have been continuing to work on our ball skills during PE this week. We began by rolling the ball to our partner who used their foot to stop it before passing it back by kicking it. Once we were feeling more confident, we then moved on to passing the ball with our feet, trying to increase the distance between us and our partner. We then built on this by dribbling the ball around the hall, stopping at the cones to pass the ball to our partner between them before continuing to another pair of cones. We worked really hard to keep the ball controlled when moving around the hall and we did a great job of working well together.

Crew MW library visit 📚

Today we visited one of our favourite areas of school… the library! 🥰 Very kindly, Harlow brought in one of her lovely books from home ‘Peppa goes to London’ and we decided to take that with us to read as we got comfy in the library.

Before we left, we chose a book from the basket to take back to the classroom to read during snack time later on this week.

Perfect Penguin Predictions 🐧📖✏️

To kickstart our new writing unit, based on the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers, for our experience lesson we discussed what we knew about penguins and predicted what the book would be about based on the front cover. We also watched an interesting video all about different types of penguins! Did you know there is a Fairy Penguin 🐧 that lives in Australia! 🇦🇺
