This morning, we spent time mixing the icing to decorate out biscuits with. We made red, blue and yellow icing that was sticky and gloopy! We loved drizzling and spreading the icing over the gingerbread men to decorate them.

Crew MW have spent the morning baking our gingerbread men to sell on Friday! We will be raising money to buy some new story books for the children in EYFS, for the school library and to give out in the local community. We measured, poured, sifted, stirred and rolled to create our gingerbread men, talking about what we could see and what we could smell. We worked really well in our small groups to complete our baking and we had lots of fun!

In Crew Shields this afternoon, we have been sketching images based around global warming which will be used towards our final product.
This week we have looked at the artist, Hannah Hoch, who is known for her collage work, we began by exploring collage materials and how we could create different effects with colour, size and shape. We practised creating by african animals linking to our key text Handa’s Surprise. We then critiqued these and created a collage of a polar bear to begin our learning around polar regions. Check out our polar collage artwork!

Thank you to all of our grown ups for coming in to school today to help us with our expedition learning! This week in Crew MW, we have been looking at different ways to help the Gingerbread Man to cross the river. We talked about how using an animal wouldn’t work as they would probably eat him, how he couldn’t swim as he would get all soggy and crumble into pieces, and how we would need to use materials that float. After drawing our designs out, we invited our grown ups in to help us to create them, We loved having you all in to help us bring our designs to life and we think they look amazing! We can;t wait to display them on our corridor display!

We have now completed our pointillism artwork and I think they look fantastic, great work Crew Robson!

In our art lessons we have been learning about Georges Seurat and how he uses pointillism to create his artwork, we did a lot of practise of this first before having a go at our final product.

Our final artwork pieces… we used cocktail sticks to create a spike pattern.
