It’s been a busy first week back after half term and two weeks of rest. We’ve been getting stuck into our new writing, continued to work on our reading fluency and been Historians as our research of the Vikings came to an end. We then began thinking about refugees, as we have an exciting visitor coming in on Monday, to discuss his experience as part of the Conversation Club.
Have a fantastic and safe weekend, Crew LKS2 – enjoy the fireworks! 😆
What a great first week back we’ve had and our first as Crew Gerrard. We’ve had a great week and have enjoyed talking about Halloween and ended with Bonfire Night, discussing how to be safe! 🧛♂️🧙♀️🧟
We have made a start on our newspaper articles this week about the incidents that are happening in Afghanistan currently, regarding the Taliban and understanding how this is effecting people who live there. We have also recapped our Maths learning for addition and subtraction and made sure that we can complete the column method for both securely. Many of use were able to achieve beyond our Minimum Expectation, to reach reasoning and problem solving. This is really great to see, as it has put a smile on our Crew Leaders’ faces! 😃
Our HoWLs this week have not been as secure as previous weeks, we have at times found it hard to make sure that we are listening and stopping straight away. I know as a crew this is something we can improve on next week as we have spoken about it a lot in our crew sessions. We know that this will change next week, as we have been getting back into our routine!
Have a fantastic weekend, enjoy Bonfire night and stay safe! 😆
Wow, what a busy last week getting to know Crew Tucker, before we become Crew Gerrard!
Our main learning this week was our experience day around Afghanistan. We wanted the children to experience what a typical day could be like in Afghanistan, we researched where Afghanistan is located, the capital city and how to say hello in Pashto and Dari. This experience day is in preparation for us to answer the second half of our guiding question: Coming to Doncaster: Why then? and why now? As after half term children will be looking at why people move to Doncaster and seek refuge.
Watch out for our experience day video and the recipe for Afghanistan biscuits.
Have an amazing half term – rest up well, get lots of sleep and have lots of fun!
I really can’t wait to be your teacher when we return and I know that you will all miss Mr Tucker. We’ll have to make sure that we really impress him with our learning.
What a great week we have had in LKS2, completing some fantastic maths, beautiful art and some great sporting activities ⚽️ Keep up the great work LKS2 and enjoy your fantastic weekend! 😆
This week has been another busy one for Crew Tucker and the children have continued to make us laugh with their jokes and witty comments and to make us proud with how keen they are to Work Hard, Get Smart and Be Kind.
In writing we have been continuing our Viking narratives, retelling the terror of the Viking raid in Lindisfarne. The children have worked hard to include a range of literary features – fronted adverbials (always followed by a comma!), conjunctions, similes and ambitious vocabulary (words that will make us say, “Wow!”).
In maths we have been learning how to add using the column method. It’s safe to say we found this a little tricky to begin with, but by using concrete resources and pictures to reinforce our understanding the children were able to persevere and make progress. We will be continuing to work on this next week as adding larger numbers is so important in Key Stage Two.
Our HOWLs this week have dropped a little, but this is not because we have not been trying hard; it is because we are getting better at being honest and critiquing ourselves. Yes, we want our HOWLs to be as high as possible, but only if these are a true reflection of how we are doing. This is so important if we are going to strive to be the best versions of ourselves.
Keep up the hard work Crew Tucker and have a great weekend!
It’s been another busy week in LKS2. We’ve worked really hard in Expedition, but the highlight this week has been our Maths. We’ve loved trying to beat Siri and gain better skills along the way! Check out our video below and have a happy weekend Crew LKS! 😆
It may have been a shorter week at Carcroft, but what a great week it has been, especially in Crew LKS2. We’ve had a fun filled week and wanted to show off a different side to our learning. We’ve been working especially hard on our reading, computing and French skills. See snippets of some beautiful work – Year 4s dragon eyes 🐲🐉.
We have also looked into our Expedition further (Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now?) as we link our writing to the Vikings. We’re creating a comic strip to discuss the raid of Lindisfarne, using a variety of art skills that include silhouettes.
We have had another brilliant week in Crew Tucker and we are going from strength to strength as the weeks progress and we become more settled and used to being back in school.
This week we have continued with our poetry writing in English and have grappled with rhyming words to create our own versions of the poem, ‘The Dragon Who Ate Our School’. The children have created some brilliant pieces and collaborated well to critique their work and improve.
We also had one our favourite ever experience days, where we re-enacted raiding Lindisfarne. This was such an awesome experience after we learned about the variety of reasons the Vikings came to settle in Doncaster. This helped us answer our Guiding Question further, Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now? The pictures below will give you a sense of what the children experienced but being in then hall and witnessing it first hand was truly special. A big thank you to our brilliant Phase Crew who worked so hard to put this together for the children!
Our HOWL average this week was 3.5. This is a brilliant score and has improved from last week showing how hard the children are working to improve.
Enjoy your long weekend everyone! We will see you bright and early Tuesday morning.
