Crew Boswell – 25.09.20

Good afternoon,

Star moment of the day:

Our star moment today was having the chance to show Miss Laing and Mrs Elmer our developing skills at being authors.  We loved the chance to share some of our work so we thought this could be a great time to share some of our first independent writing and editing with you!

Today’s HoWL average is: 3.3

How can we improve this next week?

To improve next week, we all need to start working a little quicker.  We’ve improved with asking for help if we need it and so now it’s time to really show what we’re capable of!

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Work Hard – Troy!  Troy has had a great day today and has shown a fantastic attitude to learning and he has impressed us all with his perseverance, especially when he has found something tricky.  This positive attitude and focus has easily earned him our HoWL Hero award!

Our Learning Legend:

Bobby-Joe!

Bobby-Joe has blown us all away in Crew Boswell with his concentration in lessons and the facts he remembers from one lesson to the next but he should be especially proud of the huge improvement in his handwriting and how this is helping him to Get Smart each day. Keep it going, fantastic work!

Weekly overview:

What a week we’ve had this week!  Highlights have certainly been the visitors that have come to see us working hard and having a chance to show others how fantastic a crew we are.  Others would be the developing confidence and kindness that’s been on show this week and the growing enthusiasm that we’re tackling our maths sessions.  We also enjoyed having the chance to share our thoughts on how we’ll Work Hard with our phase in assembly and it has helped us to stay focused today.  Watch out for our work on Be Kind that will be coming up soon.  We’ll be sure to share it with you as well!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Crew Mcloughlin blog 25/09/20

First of all I would just like to start with our average HoWL score today… we went above our target and achieved 3.3! We have now got to keep this is up Crew Mcloughlin so our weekly average is as high!

Mr Tucker and Miss Whitehead came around with our new HoWLopoly wheel, as we had achieved our expected standard last week. We gave it a good spin and it landed on… throwing a cream pie in Miss Laing’s face 😲 I hope your ready Miss Laing!

Today in science we looked at children’s developmental milestones in typical age brackets. We had a great discussion around how we all learnt to walk and talk at different ages and what we thought children should do by a certain age. Here are some lovely examples of work from Logan M and Lila which they are both proud of.

Learning LegendGracie- for having a positive attitude towards all of her learning, you have shown incredible resilience in your writing which has made you into a ‘Write Stuff’ superstar where you have gone on to produce a lovely piece of writing. Keep believing in yourself! You can do it!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Miss Mcloughlin.

Crew Wilson Daily Blog: 25/09/2020

The end of the school week is here and we have definitely had that Friday Feeling today in Crew Wilson! We have achieved so much this week across all of our lessons, here are some highlights!

Highlights of the Week

Theme: Our Box-Model replica of Carcroft is coming along nicely. We have paper-mached our creations and added a base coat of paint ready for further detail to be added next week. I have been blown away by the children’s creativity and resilience with this activity – sticky hands and newspaper make for hard work but Crew Wilson haven’t let this stop them! I can’t wait to see our final product!

Maths: We have been continuing exploring numbers 0-10, this week focussing on the concept of one more and one less. We have experimented with manipulatives, number lines, ten-frames and counting games to help us get secure with this. The children have really enjoyed working independently, applying their new knowledge to a task after their taught session and showing off all they have learned.

English: We have continued with our recount of our expedition journey to Coffee Corner from the beginning of term. Although it was nearly 4 weeks ago the Crew must have photographic memories as they can recall even the smallest of details from our journey! I have been so proud watching each group work so hard on their writing. While some words may not be spelled correctly, the children have sounded these out independently and have done such a great job – their understanding of phonics is improving rapidly and we will soon have a Crew full of fantastic authors!

Howl Heroes

Work Hard : This Howl goes to April today. I can always count on April to be concentrating on her work, she is always applying herself to the highest standard. April is a superstar and has become a valued member of Crew Wilson, we love her for her sassy nature and funny stories, but mostly because she tries so hard to do her best in everything. Keep up the great work April!

Get Smart : This Howl goes to Luke , aka Mr Chatterbox! Talking in front of the whole Crew isn’t Luke’s favourite thing to do, but this week I feel like I have taught a totally different child, Luke has totally come out of his shell and his shyness is a thing of the past! Luke is always on hand to answer questions, he is always listening carefully, especially in Maths and he has begun to share more about himself with his Crew in our morning sessions, well done Luke!

Be Kind: This Howl goes to Miami, as Miami is such a sweet and caring member of our Crew. She is always one of the first to comfort a friend who is feeling blue, she is a superstar ‘Green-Standard-Tidier’ and keeps our learning environment in ship shape! Well done Miami!

Average Howl Score:

3.7 – We have had some very honest discussions this week around Working Hard, Getting Smart and Being Kind. Some children have some personal targets to carry out next week so we can ensure they get those fabulous fours!

Reward!

As our Average Howl Score has improved week upon week, Mr Tucker and Miss Whitehead came round with a very exciting treat wheel! Dalton gave it a spin on behalf of Crew Wilson and we won sweets as a reward for all our hard work! These will be given out next week, well done Crew Wilson!

Mr W signing off after another brilliant week at CPS, have a lovely weekend everyone!

Weekly overview:

The children have tried hard this week to show me what work hard looks like. We have finished our independent writing today, the children have done super and I have been blown away by their ideas and writing! We have also looked at the Carcroft community and discussed how people in the community help us. This has made us feel part of community and crew this week and it was lovely to hear about all the different jobs and roles that Carcroft has. I look forward to seeing you all after the weekend, have a well earned break!

Crew Shields – 25/9/20

Hi all,

Star moment of the day:

Today Crew Shields have really modeled the work hard expectation today. I was really proud of them when we had visitors in our class and they saw children on task and trying their best. Lets keep this going next week.

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.9

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Next week, Crew Shields need to work on ensuring they are consistent with our work hard, be smart and be kind expectations.

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Our work hard hero today is: Kaleb!!

Kaleb has been working hard to ensure that he is following the expectations. This is something Kaleb doesn’t always find easy but he has tried so hard. He has also completed all his learning with some support. His crew were very proud of him and agreed that he should be our hero today!

Learning Legend:

IJ –

IJ has been setting a great example for the work hard, Get Smart and Be kind expectations. He is always willing to give a helping hand to his peers and is polite to everyone. He is working really hard in RWI and ensuring that he is listening to the new sounds and blending them more accurately. Keep up the amazing learning IJ!

Summary of the Week:

During this week, Crew Shields have had many highlights this week and I have been very proud of the accomplishments they have achieved, We have been trying to build on our working in a group skills and this is something we will continue to do as we move through Year 3. I have been really impressed with the children’s independence with writing and I love that they are using more of their own ideas and not relying on my model. I can see the children’s confidence continuing to grow and they are developing their independence. I’m sure we will continue being amazing next week.

Weekly Attendance

Crew Shields Attendance – 96.25%

Our target is 97% so we are just slightly below the target. Lets work hard Crew Shields to meet the target next week.

Crew Gerrard blog (25/09/2020)

Hi everyone!

In Crew Gerrard we have had such an amazing day. We started off the day by celebrating our learning legend and seeing all of the others around school. We then moved into a Jigsaw lesson, where we discussed what democracy was and whether this was a good thing. The children enjoyed debating their ideas as an example of democracy.

The morning then moved onto science. The children looked into the development of children from 0 to 12 years old. They were fascinated with the development over time and completed some lovely work based on it. I was really impressed. See Lucas’ work below where he reached the Green Standard for his work.

We even had a visit from Mr Tucker and Miss Whitehead to spin the wheel for our new HoWLopoly. This was after our HoWL average had stayed the same as last week. Zane was the first spinner and he landed it on being able to throw cream pies at Miss Laing – sorry Miss Laing!

Our HoWL average for today was 2.9. We hope those that were off will feel better soon!

Our learning legend for the week was Tyler for being such a star. He has worked so hard with his writing and taken his time to understand how to make it flow. He has also worked hard on his maths and being able to work independently. Tyler was a whizz with the computing and taught me new tricks. He also helps to put a smile on your Crew’s face. Keep it up Tyler!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Mr G 😆

Crew Welburn’s Weekly Review

Friday✔

What a week we have had in our classroom! We’ve had so much brilliant learning taking place. The children have really blown us away.

Highlights from the week:

Science:

In science, we have been learning all about the human body. Today, we recapped the internal and external parts of the body that we could name, and reminded ourselves of the senses we had looked at so far. I was so amazed that the children could remember some names for the different parts of the eye! 👀
Today, we had lots of fun learning about how sound travels to our ears. We looked at how different people hear different things, and talked about ways that we can help our hearing. We even learnt a little bit of sign language!

PE: Our PE lessons have been fantastic this week. We are loving having obstacle courses to do and we are getting much better at following instructions to complete the activities in PE.

Writing: I am blown away by the handwriting in some of our writing lessons from this week. I have seen the children try really hard to develop their pencil grip, and they are really taking them time to make sure that they are forming their letters correctly. Keep this up Crew Welburn.

Our HOWL Heroes:

Work Hard: Kyden is our work hard HOWL hero today. Mrs Thorpe nominated Jyden as he has been very helpful to her at lunch times and has tried hard all day to follow instructions.

Get Smart: Elijah is out get smart HOWL hero today as he has shown that he is always looking, listening and follow instructions so that he knows what he is doing in his learning. Well done Elijah!

Be Kind: Scarlett is out be kind HOWL hero today because she has been so polite to all of the children and adults in Crew Welburn and around school today. What a fantastic role model to the other children Scarlett!

This week’s Learning Legend:

This week’s Learning Legend is Lylah. Lylah has completely changed her attitude towards her learning over the past few weeks. She is making sure that in every lesson, she is working hard through listening to the adults, sharing her ideas and following every instruction given to her. This means that she is also getting super smart as she is challenging herself with her learning! She has become a great role model in Crew Welburn and I can always rely on her to make good choices in lessons, provision, and in crew time. Keep up this great work Lylah!

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.9 ✅

This weeks HoWL average is: 3.1 ✅

Weekly HoWL target: 3

Have a lovely weekend, see you on Monday!

Daily Blog 24.09.20

Top Thursday! 👌

Despite it being another wet day 🌧 this morning at school 🏫 the sun ☀ was definitely shining in Crew Elmer!

Star moment of the day:

Today I was really blown away with the presentation of the children’s handwriting ✏ in ‘The Write Stuff’. This week the children have been making sure that they are forming their ascenders and descenders correctly, writing next to the margin, missing a line where necessary and forming their letters to the correct size and orientation. The standard of handwriting in Crew Elmer is incredibly high that is for sure! 🙌 See below for some snaps! 📸 This afternoon I placed the children’s English books 📒 around the classroom and the children had to vote for ONE child who they thought had produced the best handwriting this week! I’m sure that they will have told you about this because they and I found just choosing ONE child was incredibly hard! However, this week they chose Ray! His handwriting is always impeccable! Well done Ray! As a reward Ray gets our Golden Ticket from Miss Laing and will be enjoying ‘shake 🥛 and cake 🍰’ with her and some other children tomorrow! I promise I will try not to be jealous Ray as I sip my water in the classroom! 😂 This is really great news though Ray and again something that makes me very proud of Crew Elmer! 😁 I wonder who will get the Golden Ticket for most improved handwriting next week? It could be you!

Today’s HoWL average is: 2.8

This is slightly lower than yesterday’s average, however I feel that yet again that this is due to children’s honestly. If they haven’t been working hard or they have had lots of reminders or fallen out with their friends and been unkind children have really reflected this in the points that they have given themselves. Well done Crew Elmer for being honest. ‘Honesty really is the best policy’.

This week’s HoWL target is: 2.9

How can we improve this tomorrow?

Tomorrow Crew Elmer need to make sure that we are ALL ‘working hard’ at all times. We also need to make sure that we are being kind to each other, kind words only tomorrow please. We are Crew and we need to look out for each other, be supportive and work together not against. Please remember this 💕

Today’s HoWL Hero:

Crew Elmer nominated Lacey for HoWL Hero today! This young lady has been working incredibly hard today and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by her peers and staff within Crew Elmer. Her hand has been up lots in both The Write Stuff and Maths, she has absolutely tried her best and asked for help if she has needed it. Well done for using your shoulder partner today Lacey! Mrs Thompson also mentioned to me how incredibly proud she was of you today and the hard work you did in your RWI session. Well done Lacey! Yet again you have one proud Mrs Elmer sat here! 🙌 Please keep this up Lacey! 😊

Wok Hard

Crew Thiede 24.9.20

Hi everyone! We have had a busy day in Crew Thiede today.

Highlight of the day
I was very impressed with how the children sat in assembly today. They have not been in assembly for so long and I thought they did so well to sit and listen. They worked very hard on their ‘working hard in Crew Thiede’ presentation and well done to the children who got up and spoke at the front! 🙂
