The children have loved dressing up in their favourite characters for world day and we have been super impressed with the paper plates designs. Crew F2 have also enjoyed spending time with the older children reading to them. They were really impressed and can not wait to be able to read as well as them!
The children have been using their creative skills in expedition. Using fine motor movements and discussing the features of plants, to create water colour paintings with a range of lines and shapes that will be used within the community. Well done F2.
The children have been working super hard on their writing skills. Now in a morning they write their names, numbers to 10, and now affirmation sentences. They have been amazing at recalling the properties of a sentence such as adding a full stop at the end. Well done crew F2.
We began our second case study (Art) by evaluating and analysing works of art by various artists including some works by Jonathan Yeo. We discussed as a class What we liked about certain portraits and why. During a gallery walk, we then delved deeper into the choices the artist made e.g. the medium the artist used to create the portrait and why as well as questioning the colour choices and the impact these have on the overall composition. To finish, we began to think about why these people were chosen to have their portraits made and, if we were to make our own, who would we choose?
Today was Written Day where Crew Wilkinson delved deep into the text answering a variety of retrieval, inference and prediction questions about our current text. We then went through our answers as a crew and developed our answers, listening and supporting each other to achieve! What are you reading at home at the moment?
We worked incredibly hard adding mixed number fractions today. Breaking them apart, converting to the same denominator, adding wholes and fractions then converting any improper fractions into mixed numbers. So many steps but we worked hard on our resilience and triumphed. Well done Crew Wilkinson!
Today, we worked with our shoulder partners to skim and scan for information (as well as retrieving knowledge we already knew) about Martin Luther King Junior, why he was important and what change he instigated. We discussed and witnessed how captivating he was as a spokesman for equal rights. His language is full of metaphors which we broke down and put them into our own words.
Crew Dorman had our Celebration of Learning this morning!
It all started in September, with the Expedition – ‘Exploring our World’ our guiding question was ‘What do stories tell us about Autumn?’
All term we have been exploring our nursery indoors and out, reading stories and getting used to all of our play areas and daily routines.
In Case study 1 our focus story was ‘Owl babies’ and we learnt about our family and other families like ours.
In Case study 2 we looked at non fiction books on ‘Diwali’ and ‘Bonfire night’ and learnt the rhyme ‘5 Little firemen’ with actions!
Finally, in Case study 3 our focus story was ‘Percy the Park Keeper – After the Storm’. We used what we had found out about our environment and forests in our stories, to look closely at the animals and plants in Percy’s park. We were incredibly creative throughout all of our expedition. We made lots of artwork, building up our art skills and confidence, to be creative with lots of different materials inside and outside!
During our celebration of learning, we showcased our ownership of our learning environment, by showing our parents where we like to play. We showed off our crafting and printing skills making ‘Clay hedgehogs, ‘Leaf man’ pictures and Autumnal handprints! We also talked about our favourite stories R said to Mrs Dorman “I like the Leaf man story!” and N said “I like the Percy book!”
Thank you to everyone who has made our expedition so magical and a big thank you to everyone today for celebrating all of our wonderful learning! What a fantastic day! Well done Crew Dorman!
Why don’t you practice the rhyme ‘5 Little leaves’ at home or take a look at one of our favourite stories ‘Leaf Man’.
We started our new writing topic today by reading Little Red Riding Hood. Then, we chose items for our baskets to send to Granny’s house🏡We talked about which foods are healthy 🍌🍓🍎and not healthy.🍬🧁We chose which foods we would like when we are sick like Granny👵🏻.
In Crew Pashley’s reading group, this morning, Year 3/4 enjoyed spending some free time in the library to read some of their favourite books. The children enjoyed reading books to each other, sharing a book or quietly independently reading.
