Challenge Crew

This morning, we had to continue to work in a crew to achieve a common goal. We worked in mini crews and were set the challenge of seeing which mini crew could hold the most pieces of paper between parts of their body. There were strict rules in that we could not fold the paper or use anything, such as glue, to help us. We also weren’t allowed to let the pieces of paper touch each other.

Science Experiment – Ice Caps 🧊

Yesterday, Crew Hamill prepared their next science experiment titled: “How does the temperature affect the rate at which ice melts?” We had a recap of what we already know about the ice caps and discussed how the ice is melting in Svalbard which is leading to problems in Svalbard and the UK. To understand the impact temperature has on ice, we have started an experiment in which we have prepared three blocks of ice that we will be exposing to three different environments – one in the freezer, one on a table at room temperature and one on a radiator, exposed to a higher temperature. We made a prediction that the ice at a higher temperature will melt at a faster rate than the ice in the freezer. We cannot wait to complete our experiment to see if we are right!

Challenge crew

In crew this morning, we continued to work as a team to achieve a common goal. Todays aim was to see how many pieces of paper we could hold with body parts. We had to work in mini crews and follow certain rules. Only one piece of paper could be held between two body parts, each sheet had to touch both crew members and the pieces of paper could not touch. It was super tricky but we managed to get some pieces of paper to stay!

Crew in MI- World book day

In preparation for World Book Day on Thursday, Crew MI started to think about their favourite books favourite characters. We created an anchor chart to show our ideas.

We then thought about the reasons why we read and the places we like to read. We even discussed how we like to read! We enjoyed some time reading in these positions 🙂

We then listened to each other reading which was so lovely! We even circled up and did this 🙂 We have really enjoyed our activities today and are looking forward to more tomorrow.

World book day preparation in MI :)

Today MI read and shared a story with the children in foundation. They discussed the front cover and blurb with the children before reading the story. At the end they asked the children a few questions… Which part was your favourite? Which character did you like? Did you enjoy the story? Why? Crew MI loved sharing stories with the younger children and tried hard to use some expression whilst they read. A lovely time together in the library.
