To continue our crew building this week, Crew McGlone have worked really hard as a crew to create a piece of artwork. We discussed how it would take 1 person a really long time to decorate the large piece of paper on their own, but if we all helped as a crew to do a little section each then it would be done much quicker. We split the paper into sections and got to work! If a section was finished, we offered to help other members of our crew with their section – continuing to work as a unit to finish our final piece. We really like our finished piece and praise how section comes together to create a lovely pattern.
Crew building!
With it being our first week back after the Christmas holidays, we have been looking at building our crew and having fun with our friends in Crew McGlone. We talked about being kind to one another and how we can do this when we are playing with toys and games in our classroom. We said that you have to talk using kind words, use kind hands, share and take turns. We put these skills into practise by playing with our friends – we played games such as Pop-Up Pirate and Shopping List, as well as building structures using magnetic tiles! It was extremely fun and we were showing really strong HOWLs – especially ‘Be Kind’.
Learning all about the number 1!
In Crew McGlone we have been looking at the number 1. We looked at what it looks like as a digit, we showed it on our fingers, we subitised, AND we investigated what it might look like on a 5 frame! We talked about the fact that it did not matter where the counter was placed on the 5 frame, as long as there was only 1 counter then it would show the number 1. We noticed that number 1 is always by itself! We worked with a partner to show the number 1 on a 5 frame and on our fingers.
We consolidated our learning by trying to find the correct cup that had only 1 counter underneath it. Miss McGlone tried to trick us by mixing the cups up but we all worked really hard to work out which cups had 1 counter underneath and which cups did not have 1 underneath. We knew if it was 1 because the counter was by itself!
Christmas cards
We had so much fun creating our Christmas cards for our grown ups!
Helping in the forest and having fun
Foundation children loved helping to try and clean the forest area as well as climbing tree and having fun
Brunch with Santa
This afternoon, Crew McGlone had brunch with a very special guest – Santa! He brought along his reindeer Rudolph and his cheeky elf sidekick!
Wow! What a performance!
It was pleasure to be able to watch the Cheerleading and Acro performance on Thursday afternoon. The children from KS1 and KS2 performed the dances they have been learning during this term in lunchtime clubs.
The performance oozed confidence and the high quality learning that has taken place during these clubs. It was great to see children from previous years perform but also lots of new faces. A massive well done to all involved. They should be very proud of themselves.
Paddington and the grand tour
In expedition, we read ‘Paddington and the grand tour’ and talked about how Paddington was excited to visit lots of landmarks in London on an open top tour bus.
We worked as a crew to create our own open top tour bus, with Hayden as our bus driver! We then took it in turns to sit with our friends in a cafe and shared cakes, just like Paddington did. Finally, we built a beautiful palace, similar to Buckingham Palace which was a stop on the tour bus.
Getting our classroom Christmas ready!
On Friday, we had a lovely time decorating our classroom tree.
Children in Need 2024
We’ve had lots of fun celebrating Children in Need 2024 in Crew McGlone.
