UKS2 Thackray Museum Visit

Today has been a great day for UKS2 as we had the opportunity to explore the Thackray Museum. It was very interesting exploring life for people from 1840 and how that has changed in the present day. Some great discussions especially around how in 50 years time there will be children visiting the museum, who will learn about the covid pandemic.

As we walked round, we had a range of questions to answer in our pairs for each of the different medicine rooms that we entered. We had lots of reading to do in order to really understand how medicine has dramatically changed over the years. This meant our Work Hard and Get Smart HOWLS had to be secure so that we could be successful in our comprehension work!

Our gallery walk of beautiful work 🖼

Throughout case study 2 science we have been given time to reflect and answer our guiding question ’How can a healthy lifestyle impact your body and mind?’ Through answering this we used our writing skills and wrote a science report. Check out all of Crew Mc’s beautiful work below… we even gave critique focusing on our beautiful presentation and gave out prizes for the top 3 designs. We just need to respond to writing feedback and work with our peers to revise our writing to ensure Y6 quality.

UKS2 trip – Thackray Museum of Medicine

Good evening, just a reminder regarding our trip on 29th June. See below letter sent out 23rd May.

Dear parents and carers,

As part of our Summer Term expedition, ‘How does a healthy lifestyle impact your body and mind?’, we have organised a fantastic visit to The Thackray Museum of Medicine to hook the children into their learning and bring the expedition to life. The visit will be an action-packed day where the children will have the opportunity to explore how medicine has changed over time and observe some minor medical procedures.

The trip will take place on Wednesday 29th June 2022. The coach will collect us from school at 9:15am and it will return at approximately 2:30pm depending on the traffic. We will update you via text message if our return is delayed.

Children will wear school uniforms for the visit and we strongly encourage them to wear their red Carcroft hoodies.

Those children entitled to a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch from school. All other children will be required to bring one from home.

The cost of the trip is £16.60. We are asking parents to pay £12.00 per child and the school will subsidise the remainder of the cost. Unfortunately, if we don’t receive enough money the trip will not go ahead.

Please note: All monies and consents need to be completed and paid via Parentpay no later than Friday 17th June 2022

We are looking forward to an exciting day. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

Yours faithfully,

Upper Key Stage Two Crew
