Cricket tournament!

Today, some of our Year 3 and Year 4 children have took part in a cricket tournament. The children showed how well Carcroft School work as a team, and were cheering others on throughout the day. Their crew building and communication skills really shone through today! They got better and better as the day went on and we are sure they will be experts when they have finished doing cricket in PE!

Awesome Authors! 🌟📝

Last week in Crew FE I was blown away with the fabulous writing that the children were producing! They have shown that they are able to use expanded noun phrases with prepositions, onomatopoeia and time fronted adverbials! Great work Crew FE! I am excited to share this with your grown ups next Wednesday afternoon and I am sure you are too!

The Pebble in My Pocket

Today in Crew Thompson’s reading group, we solved a jigsaw of the front cover of our new book. We found out that the title is The Pebble in My Pocket and the author is Meredith Hooper. Afterwards, we had a fantastic discussion about what the book could be about and had lots of questions after reading the blurb.

LKS2 Recount Writing

This week, Y3/4 have been writing recounts based on the Disney short animation ’Lava’. All the children have worked super hard to write their recounts, including using amazing adjectives, onomatopoeia and time adverbials. It has been lovely to see how creative our children have been with their writing and how supportive they have been with each other to create lovely recounts.

Coronation Celebrations in Crew Thompson!

We have really enjoyed learning all about King Charles III and what will happen during the coronation. First we completed our own flags to take to the street party picnic! We had lots of fun and even sang the national anthem. This afternoon, we made our own crowns and shared the home learning that the children had created – they did a fantastic job, we were all so proud! Have a great weekend celebrating!

Super soil sections!

As part of our current Expedition, Earth Shattering Events, we looked at the different layers of soil. We made our own soil showing the organic matter, topsoil, subsoil and bedrock using different biscuits.

LKS2 Summer Hook Week

To kick start off our new expedition learning-Earth Shattering Events- Crew Pashley, Crew Thompson and Crew FE participated in various activities throughout hook week. We sketched snapshots of life in Pompeii, to create whole crew storyboards demonstrating what it was like when Mount Vesuvius erupted.

All the crews participated in a carousel of activities and experiments to begin our learning on natural disasters. We made coke and mentos volcanoes, experienced what a cold flood would feel like, and experienced what an earthquake would feel like.

Crew Pashley celebrates Earth Day!

Today in Crew Pashley we celebrated Earth Day. This morning in citizenship crew we designed our own recyclable paper bag around sustainability. This afternoon, we concluded our hook week learning by having a family learning event with various activities centred around Earth Day, including a layers of the Earth collage and a cotton bud painting of the Earth.

MTC Testing!

As some of you may be aware, all year 4 pupils now complete a multiplication tables check (MTC). This is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It also enables us, as teachers, to identify those pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

For all year 4 pupils we have added in some extra time during the school week to allow them to practise their times tables, sometimes they are working in a small group with an adult, other times practising times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars, as well as conducting a weekly MTC test.

During SLCs some parents asked how they could help to support their child at home, therefore please find below a list of useful websites:

Teachers will also be sending children home with some times table sheets as we know some children prefer to practise in this way.

To make you aware the MTC test is a timed test where children are given 6 seconds to answer a multiplication question. The test comprises of 25 questions and to pass children are expected to achieve 25/25.

Teachers will be sending children home weekly with a slip to indicate what their score was this week and how that compares to their previous score, as well as suggesting timestables that your child needs to work on.

This year the test will be conducted between Monday 5th June and Friday 16th June 2023. This means that we have lots of time to keep practising!

If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to pop into school and either speak to myself (Mrs Elmer) or your child’s class teacher.

Many thanks for your continued support.
