Crew Godley have been exploring air resistance and motion using frisbees! We planned the investigation by deciding what variables to change, like the angle and speed of the throw, and what to keep the same, so our tests were fair. By experimenting with different throwing techniques, we observed how the shape and orientation of the frisbee affects how far and smoothly it flies. This helped us understand how air resistance and forces work in real life, all while having lots of fun outdoors! We can’t wait to apply this to our learning tomorrow.

Over the past few weeks in music, we have been learning the song, ‘I’ve been to Harlem”, thinking about the shape of the tune and using our voices to show this. We’ve spent time learning the lyrics and the tune, and today, we have moved on to creating an accompaniment using the pentatonic scale on the glockenspiel. We used the 5 notes – F, G, A, D and C – to create note clusters and we began practising playing along to the song.

In Crew Godley, we have been consolidating our skills in adding 4-digit numbers using the column method. During our rapid maths sessions, we have c practiced adding numbers efficiently and accurately. These quick, focused exercises have helped the children build confidence, speed, and accuracy in mental calculations as well as written methods. It was a great way for everyone to strengthen their number skills while having fun competing in friendly challenges!

Today we had a visit from Miss Burrows from XPD who spoke to us about religions. We asked her questions about religions in Doncaster and then she showed us some artefacts from her department. We loved learning from Miss Burrows and hope she comes again soon!

This week in Crew McLoughlin’s Caring Crew, we talked about the difference between things that are inside our control and things that are outside our control. We shared ideas about how we can control our actions, our effort, and how we treat others, while learning that some things, such as the weather or other people’s choices, are not in our control. It was a great discussion that helped everyone think about how to stay positive and make good choices every day!

Today, we edited and revised our independent writing. We then began to publish our non-chronological reports. Crew Colclough ensured that our handwriting and presentation was to the highest standard. Well done Crew Colclough!

Once again, I’m donning my running shoes, together with my brother Michael, and attempting the challenging Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday the 29 March to raise funds for our upcoming Music and Arts Festival in the summer term.
This year will be the third time we have brought together students from across the Trust to showcase their artistic and musical skills alongside community partners and professional artists. Take a look at the highlights from last year.
To make this happen again we need your support! If you could make a donation, however big or small, we can place music and the arts right at the heart of our mission to make ourselves, our community and our world a better place! And make the third Community Arts and Music Festival the best yet.
Just click the link here to make a donation.
Thank you for your continuing support.
