Today we have used Jess French’s brilliant book ‘Forests’ to understand some more information on deforestation, helping us answer our guiding question!
Year 2 being geographical artists!
A fantastic first day back. The crews have settled back in really well and worked hard to produce beautiful work today.
We have continued learning about our expedition The Circle of Life: How will what I do today impact the world tomorrow?
The crews have been thinking about the changing seasons by producing some beautiful art work.
Well done!
Crew MI
Another busy day in crew MI!
Children have created some fantastic writing today. They have thought about their gold standards and applying the features to their writing. Some children have even hit their green standard. They used their chotting ideas from the experience day yesterday to really think about the lenses they were writing through and linked these to their gold standards.
Children have also enjoyed our expedition lesson where we thought more about human and physical features of Geography. Children grouped different pictures explaining their views as to why it was human or physical. From here children used maps and atlases to think more about the continent of South America.
Our HOWL scores have really improved too! Let’s keep this up Crew MI!
Crew Shields – 25/1/22
It was lovely seeing the crew work collaboratively to sort the human and physical features of South America. We were able to hear good discussions/reasoning as to their reasons for it being a human or physical feature.
LKS2 Yorkshire Wildlife Park Trip (13.1.22) 🦁🐾🐅
LKS2 have had a great day on their trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. This has really hooked us into our new Expedition, where we’re looking into answering the Guiding Question Why should we protect our beautiful planet?
We loved seeing all of the different wild animals that are on our door step, especially the Polar Bears, which we will be looking into great detail in future Expedition lessons.
The children were fantastic with their behaviour and should be really proud of how they represented Carcroft today. We will be sharing a video soon of our day, so here is a sneak peak!
Crew MI
We have had a very busy day in Crew MI!
In reading the children used their inference skills to think about images and how they may relate to our new text. There were some fantastic ideas and children shared their thoughts really well.
In writing we watched part of the film The Lorax. We thought about how the film linked to our guiding question in expedition and we completed a role on the wall thinking about the characters appearance and personality. Again some great ideas!
In expedition we became geographers where we explored compass points and maps. We thought about what countries are on the equator along with exploring the tropics.
In maths we practised our timetables, divided numbers by ten and added decimals. We then moved onto looking at multiples. We worked on varied fluency questions first then challenged ourselves with some reasoning and problem solving questions.
Tomorrow I would like to see our howl score improve, we have pledged for this to be a 3. I really hope we can show this.
Year 3 – Map Masters!
Year 3 have started using atlases to build up a knowledge of the cities that play a major role in the United Kingdom. We put our skills to the test by finding the places and then labelling a map!
We are Geographers
Today, we kick started our geography case study… recapping how to read maps, globes and how to use compasses. 🗺🌏🔎
LKS2 Final Product – Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now? (16.12.21)
LKS2 are proud to reveal their final product for their Autumn Expedition, in which the children show of their beautiful work and aim to answer the Guiding Question – Coming to Doncaster; why then and why now?
We are really proud of the work and learning that has taken place by all of the children across Year 3 and 4, especially their speaking on this video.
Please also look at the website to see the range of work in the other Case Studies.

Today, LKS2 have used coordinates on maps to plot the journey of Afghan refugees and how they can travel. Their journey can take them through several countries, such as Iran, Italy and France, before they eventually reach us. Well done guys!
