Our Crew pledge has been to challenge ourselves in all lessons so it was lovely to see most children attempting the spicy challenge in Maths and moving on to problem solving and reasoning. Well done Crew Shields
Can you please help…
UKS2 are in need of newspapers – if you have any that you no longer need could you please drop them off in school so we can repurpose them.
Thanking you in advance.
Germs…lots of germs
As part of our DT case study, we have been discussing bacteria and how this can have a negative effect on our bodies. We have highlighted the need for washing our hands and why this is essential to keep those germs under control.
We have conducted an experiment which we will observe over the next few weeks. This is where we have rubbed bread over a range of services to see where the most germs are. To help us make a comparison, we have ensured one slice of bread was handled by someone who had washed their hands and used hand sanitiser. Watch this space…
Exploring our school kitchen – Crew Shields 21/6/22
This morning, we have had the opportunity to explore the school kitchen to help us understand the importance of storing and handling food correctly. This definitely answered the question of one student who has always wondered what happens in there. Massive thank you to Val for being an excellent tour guide.
UKS2 trip – Thackray Museum of Medicine
Good evening, just a reminder regarding our trip on 29th June. See below letter sent out 23rd May.
Dear parents and carers,
As part of our Summer Term expedition, ‘How does a healthy lifestyle impact your body and mind?’, we have organised a fantastic visit to The Thackray Museum of Medicine to hook the children into their learning and bring the expedition to life. The visit will be an action-packed day where the children will have the opportunity to explore how medicine has changed over time and observe some minor medical procedures.
The trip will take place on Wednesday 29th June 2022. The coach will collect us from school at 9:15am and it will return at approximately 2:30pm depending on the traffic. We will update you via text message if our return is delayed.
Children will wear school uniforms for the visit and we strongly encourage them to wear their red Carcroft hoodies.
Those children entitled to a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch from school. All other children will be required to bring one from home.
The cost of the trip is £16.60. We are asking parents to pay £12.00 per child and the school will subsidise the remainder of the cost. Unfortunately, if we don’t receive enough money the trip will not go ahead.
Please note: All monies and consents need to be completed and paid via Parentpay no later than Friday 17th June 2022.
We are looking forward to an exciting day. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.
Yours faithfully,
Upper Key Stage Two Crew
Press conference – writing experience day
In writing, we had an experience day exploring the dialogue that the characters for our newspaper article could have. We watched this section of Pig Heart Boy and recorded the types of questions they asked. It was great seeing their drama skills come out but importantly having fun with the activity.
Carcroft Chronicles – Pig Heart Boy
Our newspaper articles for Pig Heart Boy are well underway in Crew Shields. Some lovely vocabulary and trying to include all our cohesive devices.
Osmosis – How does it work?
This afternoon, we have been exploring the process of osmosis so the children can understand ho the nutrients from our food are absorbed into the blood stream. This was a tricky concept to understand but we were resilient and asked for further diagrams or explanations when we needed clarity.
Mental health – 8/6/22
A massive thank you to Mr Ibbotson who took the time to come and be our expert about mental health.
During his talk, he explained about mental health, how we can look after it and the impact to our daily lives if we don’t take care of ourselves.
The children had lots of questions to ask which helped their understand and develop their knowledge. Amazing to have an expert on hand to help us.
Crew Shields – Newspaper Cafe
Crew Shields have explored newspapers and had the opportunity to read some articles.
They provided praises, notices and wonders about the articles. They did a great job picking out the features of a newspaper report.
