Final word presentations in MI

Today we worked in small groups to present our final word presentations to an audience. Our presentations to our parents are getting closer so we are refining our speaking and listening skills ready for the big day 🙂 It was lovely for children to share their journeys with other crew members then give critique for improvement.

Locating local rivers 🔍

This afternoon, we used maps and iPads to locate the rivers in Doncaster and the UK. We really enjoyed finding the River Don that runs through Doncaster and then expanding our search to finding rivers in the UK finding other well known rivers such as Thames, Severn, Ouse and Humber.

Reflecting on our beautiful work

During our final word session today, we reflected on our first two expeditions and the beautiful work we had produced. It was lovely to see children looking back through their books and the learning journey they had been on. They were then able to add some of their work to their final word slides.

Reflecting on expeditions in MI

Today we reflected on the expeditions we had covered in year 6 so we could start the beautiful work section of our final word presentations. We thought about the guiding questions, the case studies we had covered and all the learning we had produced in each case study. We then thought about the final product for each expedition. It was lovely reflecting on all the amazing things children had produced throughout the year. We then continued with our final word presentations 🙂

From cloud watchers to weather reporters

We have extended our knowledge from watching and identifying clouds, to making a weather report of our own. We did some research online, watched our local weather reports and then made a draft copy. We then critiqued our draft and made changes to create a final piece which some of us enjoyed filming. I think we may have some future weather reporters in Crew Robson ☀️❄️🌈☔️

Final word presentations in MI

Today MI continued to work on their final word presentations reflecting on their howls for the year then thinking about their proudest moments. They used their expedition books from the Autumn and Spring term to support them. They continued to use their checklists to order their presentations.

E-Safety Day 2023

On Tuesday 7th February we celebrated Safer Internet Day 2023, attached are the slides we created to showcase our thoughts and ideas.

Internet Safety or E-Safety is an integral part of children’s education in today’s digital world and is embedded in their learning at school. At Carcroft School we want to help our parents and children improve their own understanding of e-safety issues so they can learn to use the internet and all digital media in a safe and secure way.

As a parent/carer you’ll know how important the internet is to children – they use it to learn, play, socialise and express themselves. But the technology children use every day can seem a bit daunting and you might worry about the risks your child can face online – such as bullying, contact from strangers or the possibility of them seeing illegal or inappropriate content.

To try and help parents/carers with the fast moving and changing world of internet and social media we’ve suggested a few internet sites. You can also read/download the documents for further information and advice.

  •  Thinkyouknow (advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online)
  • Internet matters (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • Parent info (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • Child net (help and advice for parents and carers)
  • Net-aware (support for parents and careers from the NSPCC)

Safer Internet day 2023

Safer Internet Day 2023 will take place on the 7th of February 2023, with celebrations and learning based around the theme ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online. It is an annual event organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre, which aims to promote safe, responsible, and positive use of internet technology. The internet plays a huge part in the lives of young people today. It can be used positively, helping young people learn new skills, express themselves creatively, and strengthen social bonds. However, the use of many popular online platforms has also been linked to low self-esteem and anxiety. Next week we will explore how we can empower our children with the tools to continue to be safe whilst using technology online. Look out for our crew blogs on Tuesday!

Case study 3 continues in MI

Today we continued with our ICT work. We created our own sprite based on Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to travel in space. We followed the instructions carefully then started to create our own back drop. Some great support was given today by our peers which was lovely to see.
