Crew Shields – French

We have been looking at learning French numbers 1-31. From our previous French learning we were quite confident with numbers up to 12 and so we spent time looking at the written words for numbers 13-31 as well as practising our pronunciation.

We then had a go at doing simple mathematics using only French numbers. We had to work together to work out the numbers we needed to add/subtract before then working out the answer and giving the answer in French. This really got us thinking!

Crew Shields – Music

We continued with our work on ‘The Doot Doot Song’ by recapping the chord sequence used within the piece. We used the glockenspiels and worked in small groups to create the chords needed. We worked hard to make sure we were all playing at the same time.

We then finished off the lesson by listening to different styles of acoustic guitar music. As ‘The Doot Doot Song’ is an acoustic piece, we talked about the different instruments that layer together to create a piece and how these layers can be different in order to create different variations. We listened to Jolene (Dolly Parton), Blowin’ in the Wind (Bob Dylan), Gone (Jack Johnson and Ben Harper), and Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (Lead Belly). We identified many similarities and differences.

Crew Shields – Music

As part of our snapshot of learning, we looked at a song called ‘I Wanna Sing Scat’. After listening to the song and identifying some of the areas where lyrics were easy to pick up, we talked about the rhythm and how some of the lyrics only happen on certain beats. We spent a lot of time looking at how the rhythm and beats affected the sound of the piece as there were main lyrics, and then different backing vocals. It was a really tricky concept to get our heads round but we persevered and in the end when we split into two groups, it began to sound really professional!

Scotties

Mick really put the children through their paces this week as they completed their last session fo the Spring term. They were running, doing star jumps, planks and walk out. I imagine they had sore legs afterwards.

Collaging

Last week, we continued practicing our collaging skills by taking some elements of the final product to have a go at. We looked at the shape and appropriate shapes to use to create the object we wanted.

Graphic and Standard Notation

In music, we started to look at graphic notation which helped us recognise the syllables in words and how this corresponds to standard notation. We then practiced as a group different graphic notations and then we had a conductor help us start and stop. We watched a video from August Rush to help us understand the role of a conductor.
