In our latest computing session we learnt all about what debugging is (which doesn’t actually have anything to do with real life bugs!), how we identify them in an algorithm and how we can fix them! We then had a go at doing some ‘debugging’ ourselves. We worked in pairs and used maps and directions to spot the ‘bug’. We were really good at this! As a crew we then had a go at rewriting the correct algorithm. We then finished the lesson by sharing everything that we had learnt about ‘debugging’!
Decomposition
In Crew Godley, we continued our computing work and discussed what decomposition was. The children enjoyed explaining what they had already learnt about computers.
We first drew pictures using 2D shapes and discussed how we could break this down for someone to follow. We then created step by step instructions for our partners to follow.
We discussed that we have to break down big tasks into small chunks to make it easier to complete.
Celebrating St George’s Day!
To celebrate St George’s Day in Crew Godley we participated in a number of fun activities! We began by enjoying our ‘British’ crew picnic where we sat together and ate sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes. We then completed a carousel of art activities including, creating colourful shields, pointillism dragons and collage flags. We also discussed why we were creating the different pieces, who St George was and what he accomplished!
Experiencing the wilderness…
Today as part of our Experience Day for The Write Stuff, we swung through the tree, navigated the tall grass and spied the magical creatures. We had to keep our balance on the stepping stones and we were unsure what the ear aching noises from down below could be…
Paper tower challenge
Crew Godley had a great time trying to build the tallest tower using only paper and cellotape. We worked in groups to find ways to make our towers tall but also sturdy so that they could stand up on their own.
Practicing our number formation
Crew Godley have practiced some number formation before beginning our multiplication lesson this morning. This is super important skill to practice before we apply writing the numbers into our maths work!
Map creations of Carcroft
Today, for our final Expedition Hook Week lesson we created maps of Carcroft. First, we stained our paper using tea bags and water to make them look more like an old map! We then used pictures of some of the key locations and cut and arranged them in the style of David Hockney.
Awesome Orienteering
Today we invited in our grown ups to take part in an orienteering challenge around the school grounds. We used an aerial photograph and control points to solve the secret message. You were all awesome!!
Our Tower
For our experience lesson, Crew Godley, we read the story ‘Our Tower’ for our new writing unit then we discussed different scenes from the book. We then made our own towers out of different resources in the classroom and designed our own towers from looking at different types of towers.
Crew Robson and Crew Godley – Music
We finished our unit on ‘Trains’ by layering up different rhythm notations to create a whole class piece of music that represented the movement of a train. We split into 3 groups, drums, shakers and guiros. Each instrument represented a different rhythm notation and we practised our individual rhythms before playing at the same time and creating a layered piece.
