In Year 1/2 we started to look at becoming musicians by being introduced to different percussion instruments. We started off by clapping and repeating patterns before then trying to repeat patterns using our percussion instruments. We had so much fun and loved hearing all the different sounds made by the instruments!
Music – Year 5/6

We started our musical learning journey this week by listening to and appraising a piece of music by composer Gustav Holst, that was created to represent the character of the planet Mars. We discussed the instruments used, the tempo and dynamics of the piece before thinking about how Holst used all these elements to portray the characteristics of war usually associated with Mars.

Day and night / Phases of the moon
It’s been very busy today as the children have been exploring why we have day and night before recreating the phases of the moon.
During the practical lesson, the children were able to recreate the rotation of the earth on it’s axis and we used torches for the sun. While they completed this task, it helped them understand day and night and why our shadows move throughout the day.
After lunch, the children discovered more about the phases of the moon and were able to recreate each stage. Of course, it was made even better when they could eat the moon at the end.
LKS2 family learning 🕵️🕵️♂️
Today, LKS2 have been lucky enough to have their family learning day. It was such a lovely vibe seeing lots of happy, smiling faces in the hall today. What a great turn out – thank you to everyone who came. We excitingly made our own gas mask boxes, just in case there are any surprise attacks from the enemy!

PE – Crew Shields
It has been an active morning in Crew Shields as we have taken part in both Scotty’s Heroes and Active Fusion. As always PE can be an area that pushes children out of their comfort zones but they showed great resilience, which is what we want to develop as we go through Year 5.
Huge well done to Izzy who was selected as Hero of the Week.

Beautiful work in Crew MI
Crew MI have really been thinking about their handwriting and presentation and we are all working really hard to reflect on every piece of work, challenging ourselves to improve. Here you can see our beautiful work display with some great examples of the writing and arithmetic work we have produced.

Spinning around in Crew MI
MI have worked so hard to produce their own video on how the earth moves around the sun. They all thought about facts that could be used within the video to explain the different elements and used scientific vocabulary that they had learnt within the lesson. All children showed a great deal of respect for each other, listening to each other and giving one other the confidence to speak. Great work MI 🙂 Scan the QR code to have a look!

LKS2 Tuesday 🕵️♂️🕵️
We started the day off with another active Crew. This time, we worked on building up trust, talking clearly and encouraging our crew mates. We had to walk with our eyes closed and give instructions of where to walk. We then debriefed with our steps to success and our feelings during this time.

During maths, we continued to work on place value by consolidating what we already new about base 10 representations and actual numbers. We worked together to solve these and showed how much we have become smart over recent lessons!

Then, it was Expedition for the rest of the day. We continue to delve deeper into how war changes lives! We explored the lives of evacuees. We watched propaganda videos and discussed whether the children were as happy as they looked. We had a silent conversation to see what we noticed and wondered about evacuees. Finally, we studied what would have gone into an evacuees suitcase and when children began to be evacuated to the countryside.
