Today we started our new writing unit where we built lots of language to support our first plot point. We used the lenses well to build ideas 🙂

Today we started our new writing unit where we built lots of language to support our first plot point. We used the lenses well to build ideas 🙂

We started our day with a morning task around formal and informal language and the children worked hard to unpick the questions, discussing their answers with a partner then voicing their thoughts. We built on this in our main grammar session where we thought more about Standard and Non Standard English.

In our arithmetic session we looked at misconceptions from our previous arithmetic paper then applied our knowledge to a variety of questions.

In our maths lesson we looked at coordinates across 4 quadrants. We took part in a range of activities plotting coordinates, finding coordinates and making shapes. We then applied our knowledge to some reasoning and problem solving questions which really challenged our thinking.

Today in xp outdoors the children really enjoyed showing use their fine motor skills sat on the field in the lovely warm weather we have had today making cardboard flower pots.
In xp outdoors today Crew Godley did cardboard flower pots. This helped the children with their fine motor skills.
In after school club today they were looking at scooter skills. The children really enjoyed this in the lovely warm weather we have had today. We even get some sun this afternoon.
Something exciting is happening in our butterfly house Crew Welburn! Watch the video closely and you will see one of our butterflies emerging from its chrysalis! We now have three butterflies flying around their home and two more waiting to emerge 🦋

Over the weekend it was time to release our butterflies! Once the net was unzipped, they did not waste any time in coming out and exploring the great outdoors. They took a fancy to the flowerbed close to where they were released and spent time familiarising themselves with the colourful flowers and grass. One butterfly decided to land on Miss McGlone’s finger and it was very happy to sit there taking in the sunshine ☀️

Now the butterflies are out in the wild, the whole life cycle process will continue and eventually begin again! 🐛🦋
Yet another butterfly update! At last, all 5 butterflies have emerged from their cocoons and are now getting used to their new, beautiful wings. They have been enjoying the sugar water and this is giving them lots of energy to test out their new wings and also get used to their new bodies. I can tell that they are almost ready to get outside so I will be releasing them from their net into the garden tomorrow! 🦋🥰

Our chrysalises are no longer chrysalises anymore… we have butterflies! At the moment, we have 3 butterflies that have emerged from their cocoons with another 2 yet to say hello! They will stay in the net for a few days before being let out into the big, wide world 🦋

This week our caterpillars turned into chrysalises and we even caught one of the caterpillars spinning their cocoon! They will stay in their cocoons between 7-14 days before emerging so Miss McGlone has taken them home over the Easter holidays where they have settled in to their new environment well. Keep an eye out for updates when the butterflies begin to appear! 🦋
