Lots of consolidation in magic maths today 🙂 We recapped some of the place value learning we had done back at the start of the year along with some problems around perimeter and statistics. Great work MI 🙂
Today we discussed cohesion within and between paragraphs. We spent some time unpicking different paragraphs on different extinct animals. We discussed TIDE, where we found the transition/introductory sentence, the we found the development sentences then moving onto the ending sentence. We used highlighters to show these different sections. We then focussed on the Tecopa pupfish again using TIDE to explore the paragraph. From here we grouped our facts into sections which will support us when we write our plot point.
We then moved onto modifying the different verbs in a paragraph with adverbials. We looked at a piece of text, identifying the verb/verb phrase, the subject and the leftovers. We quickly realised that the sentences were very simple and included lots of repetition. From here we used TRaMP yo modify an adverbial, thinking about time, reason, manner and place. We then moved the adverbials around to show different structures. We are looking forward to continuing with this tomorrow.
Today our crew challenge was rock, paper, scissors! We worked in groups of three, one person recording the score on whiteboards! We then swapped roles. The winners of the group then competed with each other until we had an overall champion 🙂 We loved this challenge! There was a real buzz in the classroom, lots of giggles and smiles and lots of encouragement.
In our experience lesson we pretended to be the three little pigs and built two different houses – a stick one and a brick one. We then tried to see if we could blow them down like the wolf.
In maths, we started to learn more about dividing. We got the concrete resources out and shared the blocks into equal groups! We really enjoyed doing this and could answer a variety of dividing questions!
Crew MI are beaming with pride with their final pieces of art work and we couldn’t be more proud of each and every member of our crew. Well done everybody 🙂
This week in writing we are thinking about the story of the Three Little Pigs and linking it to our science work on materials.
Today we experienced being the second and third pigs who built their houses out of sticks and bricks. It was definitely challenging but we showed determination and resilience!
EYFS pupils from Green Top embarked on a cross-curricular expedition to explore the guiding question, “How do we show we care?” Through engaging activities and three case studies, they learned about kindness, empathy, and their place in the world. Immersion began with The Everywhere Bear, inspiring children to care for a crew teddy bear and fostering classroom environments of love and kindness. Hook week focused on settling children into school while emphasising kindness as a superpower.
Case studies included visits from the school nursing team, exploration of stories like Dogger and The Smartest Giant in Town to examine feelings and actions, and activities like kindness pledges, litter picking, and porridge-making tied to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Celebrations like Bonfire Night and remembrance activities deepened understanding of history and empathy. In the final case study, children compared global settings through books like Elmer and participated in charitable actions, including creating a board for the DRI children’s ward with the message “You are special. You are loved. We care,” alongside donations from their sponsored walk.
Since our first XP school opened we have been welcoming visitors from all over the world. In the last three years the number of global delegates across our Trust has run into the thousands.
Whether sole visitors or part of a group; for example twice in the last year over 60 students from Hong Kong joined us in one day; what these guests bring to our schools is invaluable.
Our students love to take them on Ambassador tours and our staff deliver CPD that allows us to share what we do and how and why we do it.
Sometimes we are presented with thoughtful gifts, which form part of a display in our Comms area shop at XPE.
A boomerang from Australia, a lucky panda drawing from a school in Hong Kong, biscuits from the Netherlands, Chocolates from Switzerland, pens from Australia and beautiful textiles from India are just some of the special thank you’s we have received.

I have been blown away at the progression with their skills and also sportsmanship within their basketball club. The children attend every Friday lunch time and I thoroughly enjoy watching them grow as individuals but also as small teams! Some great skills developing but the encouragement they give each other is such a great personality trait to have! The language they’re using is also impressive, as they know when it’s the other teams throw-in, foul due to ill play and knowledge around dribbling and passing correctly. Super impressive KS1
I have challenged all the children in Crew Robson to read 25 times before Christmas.
I will be checking book bags every Friday and children will update their bauble for every time they have read and had their reading record signed. If a child reads in school to an adult or accesses Chapter One this will also count towards their 25 reads.
Each child who achieves the 25 reads will receive a prize. They will also have their name put in the draw to win a box of Christmas goodies.
